Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh

New Poster :-)

Hi Ladies,

I've been around for a while after being in 4 weddings in 4 years, but now I'm finally here to post for my own! Smile

I'm from Pittsburgh and been here all my life except going away to college in NY. My boyfriend is a US Marine and just returned from a 7 month deployment to Afghanistan. He is stationed in California. While we're not techinally engaged yet, I know it's coming soon. We've been planning on getting married for over a year now, but the deployment pushed that off. Now that's he's home safe and sound, we're starting to lay the ground work to get engaged and planning.  As of now, the Carnegie Museum Hall of Sculptures is at the top of our list for the end of this year or early 2013.

And for my first question...November 24th, 2012 is open at the Hall of Sculptures. That's the Saturday after Thanksgiving. All except about 20 of our guests are in Pittsburgh or within a 5 hour drive. Those other 20 are mliitary and will have a long weekend for the holiday to travel - which is mainly why I think this weekend would work the best. So they could spend Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with their families (they are all from the East coast and live within driving distance when "home") then travel to Pittsburgh Friday night or Saturday for the wedding then head home Sunday. What do you ladies think about that? I just don't want people to feel like we're infringing on their family time.

Re: New Poster :-)

  • 1. Welcome!
    2. Is your boyfriend ok with starting to plan the wedding before you are engaged?  IF you havent discussed it, I'd wait before getting too excited about planning.
    3. I think Saturday after Thanksgiving is fine, especially if most of your crowd will be in town for it.  I think it's a "know your crowd" sort of thing (for me, this wouldnt fly).
  • haha, yes we are both on the same page about planning the wedding. We've been dating just over 4 years now and spent the last 5 days trying to plan everything out while I was with him in Cali. I'll be out there again in a few weeks then he'll be in Pittsburgh to visit and we plan on visiting venues and hopefully putting a deposit down for a date. I'm just trying to get everything organized before then.
  • Oh very cool. I think that Saturday is perfect. I wouldn't think of it as infringing on their family time, I would look at it as a perfect time that everyone will be available. Good Luck Planning!!!
  • Personally, as a guest I would prefer to have it "lumped" so to speak with the holiday weekend. Definite time off, extended family time for the holiday, etc. The only thing I'd check is to make and sure whoever is doing Thanksgiving is okay with the wedding overshadowing their efforts. Regardless, early congrats! Sounds like you'll have an okay amount of time to plan - although if you're looking for a professional photographer I would do that next since they can book up a year+ in advance. Good luck!
    Married since May 12, 2012
  • Good luck!  It's beautiful in there!
