May 2012 Weddings

Is it too Early?

What can you do at this point. I've only been engaged not even a week, but my head is so full of ideas! I have a journal and everything, but I can't book anything! I feel like I can't accomplish anything and it's driving me nuts! What can I or should I be doing?

Re: Is it too Early?

  • I feel the same way!  I know from this year to next so much will changed from the actaul day of our wedding...I done a little looking and I did find an amazing dress, but now I can just wait for it to go on sale!
  • Just start gathering ideas! That's one of the most fun things about planning a wedding so far in advance, imo. Start a little folder on your desktop (or a BIG folder, haha) and throw all the things you see and like into it. :) And congrats on being engaged!
  • It does..Thankyou..I have my place in mind, they won't let us book it until next year though, which is soooo frustrating..My mother bought me a HUGE planner which I love..I really don't want to have a back up place, but...what do you think?
  • I feel the saaaame way. I have so many ideas, and I just want to get started on them! But I realize it's a biiiiit early. So I've just done what some of the other girls have suggested, and I've made a folder (mine being on my laptop) and I just google wedding stuff (pretty much every day....i'm a bit obsessed hahaha) and just cram it full of ideas, and venues, and photographers, and flowers, and everything I can think of. Think of it this way, once you are able to book stuff, you'll have a leg up on the competition! (...er, other brides...not competition...*ahem*) tehe. Good luck on the planning!!!
  • Don't set anything in stone yet--your ideas will likely change. I remembered FH's and my early planning and wanted to pop back in. :)

We were originally going to do a Steampunk-themed wedding, but then changed to regular vintage, then narrowed it down to 40s/50s, which is where we are now, a year and five months (give or take a few days) out. LOOOONG engagement = lots of ideas! Just keep your mind open, and what you want will eventually surface.
  • Nope. Not too early to check.  I know on project wedding.com site, they have a timeline to keep you in check to see what should be done at a certain time, so you don't worry your pretty head.  Also, as with the previous posts, put everything in a folder, or planner.  You don't have to decide now.  The main thing is the overall theme.  Formal, or simple?  How do you see your wedding, indoors outdoors?  And then budget.  Once you have a budget, you can narrow down pretty much what can and can't be done for the price.  That should help quite a lot.  Also, try to do one thing at a time.  Sometimes ideas change, so, if you want, organize pics in the orderof  what you like in your folder.  That should help with deciding, and re-deciding.  That's how I started off.  One thing I don't advise--don't buy wedding dress 5 yrs in advance. Hahahaha.  Your wt might change-- for the bigger, like me.  So just organize and enjoy!  And CONGRATS!
  • My mom and my FI knew I wanted to get married in this specific place( my older sister also got married there and it is the most beautiful place i have ever seen) and they have already called the place and got open dates (which there are only like 6 between may and july) for 2012!! So i would say no its not too early. Most places around me book fast years in advance because there are so few places to have a wedding, especially a wedding of massive proportions like mine :) (between my parents and his mom there are like 16 siblings)
