Hi Ladies, Happy April 1st!!
So I'm in wedding song hell right now. Need to figure out songs for the ceremony, reception AND wedding video. I thought I would be able to do wedding video songs AFTER the wedding, but he wants them before so he can get us an edited video really quickly after the wedding.
Anyway, just wanted to see if you guys are doing a cake cutting song? We aren't doing any of the traditions (no garter thing, bouquet toss, etc) so I'm thinking maybe we'll just cut out the cake cutting as well so as not to break up the party. We can still cut the cake, but do it while the party is going on instead of stopping the party to have everyone watch us feed cake to each other.
Thoughts?

If you're cutting the cake, I'd do a song. I've been to weddings where they cut the cake but don't really make a thing out of it and it's really sort of awkward. Half the people notice and want to take pictures and are telling everyone else to quiet down and watch and the other half are oblivious but then feel crappy afterwards that they missed it. I think it's best to either go whole hog, let people know you're doing it, and do it or to just skip it. Half way just doesn't work so well.

Ha! We also made Carolina In My Mind a "must play" song. Our DJ was like "that's not really a song that will get people up and dancing...would it be ok if I didn't play it?" We told him that half of our guest list went to UNC and we would ALL be up and dancing for it, so it would definitely need to be played :)

And although we aren't making a big deal of it with the music, I agree that it needs to be announced and made sure that you're the focal point, even for a brief moment. It will be a great photo op but also ensure everyone actually knows the cake is there to eat!! At my friend's wedding in November, they didn't make it a big thing and they ended up taking home most of their cake. I just don't think people realized it was cut and ready to eat - and it wasn't served, so each guest had to seek it out.
