Need help picking colors!

We found the perfect venue for our day in June 2014, but we are having a difficult time picking colors. The venue is the Kenilworth Club in the Chicago suburbs. Built by George Maher in 1907 there is a historic feel to the building complete with stained glass windows. However, the walls are a dark mustard yellow, with forest green trim and a dark wood celing. I really want the colors we pick to compliment the space. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Need help picking colors!

  • your colors need to be what you like-not what goes good with the space.

no one is going to notice if the green trim coordinates with your yellow flowers.

  • That is such a gorgeous space! Looking at their website, even the bolder colors that one may think were too strong for the room look just fine. Think about you and your FI's favorite colors and go from there.

I would do mostly neutral decor, and maybe add in a pale buttery yellow to lighten it up a bit.

If you do want to add more color and aren't sure where to start, you could always pick a shade from the stained glass.

  • My main colors are blush and gray. I think that could even work in this space because they're all floral colors found in a garden. I don't think you're as limited as you may have first thought. The other suggestions would be lovely as well.
  • The yellow is beautiful but it makes a strong statement, so I would pick maybe one other color that compements the yellow but is not matchey-matchey (maybe pale blue or pink) and keep the rest neutral.  They have some great color pallets elsewhere on this web page.  I'm sure it will be beautiful!
