surprise for groom....?

I am looking for something unique to surprise my groom with....I was going to surprise him by having my son carry a sign down the aisle but of course he opened the mail that day and saw it! I want to do something whether it be for the ceremony or reception....any ideas?

Generally, I don't like surprises during the ceremony, but that's just my personal opinion.  Maybe a fancy groom's cake?

I agree, I think the ceremony isn't the best time for a surprise.  The groom's cake is a great idea or you could buy/make him a gift and have the BM or FOG deliver it to the groom when they're getting ready.

I would skip the surprise for the wedding, when he's under plenty of stress, and save it for another time.

Groom's cake is the best way for a surprise for him.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Does it have to be a public display?

What about a special wedding day gift that you know he'd love? A custom garter with his favorite sports team's logo? A heartfelt note for him to read before the ceremony?

I think a public surprise could make him feel bad that he didn't have a surprise for you.

Very true. He may feel bad. We are not doing the garter toss but I still planned on wearing one so I suppose I could look around. A note is a great idea as well. I just wanted to do something for him....nothing to crazy or outrageous that's why the "here comes the bride" sign was perfect but he saw it!

    Boudoir photos?

    You in your beautiful dress!

I like the boudoir photos idea too

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

I like the idea of writing a note to him before the wedding. A friend did something similar to this at a dress reveal prior to the ceremony. She wrote a letter to him and they had an open door between them. He read the letter and they came together around the door in a series of pictures. They are very beautiful pictures and he kept the note tucked in his pocket the entire wedding.

Before the ceremony, I was going to have his brother (a groomsman) bring him a bottle of scotch or something with a little note from me, suggesting he "relax his nerves with a drink." Kinda playful and a nice surprise.

But I'm also surprising him with the wedding cake topper. I custom ordered it and I didn't tell him what it was. Just a small detail.

I'm sure if you think about it, you can come up with a BUNCH more ideas. Just think about the details. :)

I surprised my H with a grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner. I would skip any surprises during the ceremony, there will be enough going on.

I don't think it's a bad idea to surprise your groom.  But I would just make it something that won't shock him.  I plan on doing something to surprise my groom.  A note before hand is always a very subtle & romantic surprise before the wedding. =)

I have a surprise cake topper too! I also like the note idea - something small and from the heart.

My favorite groom surprise that I saw was that the bride wrote him a note and bought him a watch he had expressed interest in. The best man delivered these to the groom before they walked down the aisle and the photographer got an amazing set of photos of his surprise.

    Do what feels right!

I agree that the ceremony may not be the best place for a surprise.

I told my FI that I hated the idea of a guestbook and it feels too funeral-y so we're not doing one. I totally lied. We're huge hockey fans so I'm getting a Blackhawks jersey made with his last name on the back and the number as the year we're getting married. I'm going to wear it for the surprise boudoir pictures and have everyone at the wedding sign it as our "guestbook". Then we'll frame it for the bar.

Honestly a "here comes the bride" sign would most likely not surprise your groom or be "special for him" in anyway.

If you want to do something special for him then write him a nice note and maybe buy him a special something that you send to him prior to the ceremony.

I just busted out laughing in my living room with my fiance next to me... I got the weirdest look ever.  Wonderful!

As for a surprise, I agree with PP.  Ceremony will probably have his nerves way up, it might make him a little embarrassed like someone else had said.  I was going to surprise me FI with a cake topper but I am awful at keeping secrets and told him so we're picking it out together.  Now I plan on incorporating something small either on the cake or boudoir album.  I dont know.  Im not big on surprises and Im horrible at keeping secrets that I am excited about.

My groom knows nothing about my dress...and I'm doing boudoir photos for him. This is totally out of the box for me, but I think it will be something he will like and will be something just for him... Make it special, just a little something for him, just between the two of you.
