Honeymoon with in the USA?

We live in TX but both enjoy fall weather! Since our wedding is in October, what are some good inexpensive places in the USA? Under $1000...Any ideas?

Re: Honeymoon with in the USA?

  • If you enjoy fall weather I'd say going north is going to be your best bet. If you only have $1000 it is going to be tough to get to New England and stay for any amount of time. I'd say shoot for the San Francisco area, then see a couple of wineries, or even drive north to Colorado or another mountainous state. I love the area around Salt Lake City, the area around the Sundance Film Festival is adorable. I've never been to Wyoming but understand it's lovely.

Chicago is beautiful in the fall. You could probably find pretty cheap airfare since Chicago has 2 airports.

Wyoming is beautiful but it gets cold fast.

  • If you could make it to New England that time of year, it would be a very memorable vacation. There really is no way to describe how beautiful the leaves are! You'll want to google peak folliage calanders since it varies by state, but most states peak mid to late October.

  • upstate new york is gorgeous that time of year. take your pick of airports-albany, westchester, buffalo too. you could also fly into newark, jfk, and or LGA and drive north.

if youre getting married this coming october price it out. you can also come to long island (fly into LGA or JFK and drive out about 2 hours to the easte end) or fly into islip macarthur and it's only about an hour or 45 minutes to hamptons, east end wineries, montauk etc.

1000wont get you a lot but it's enough for a few days.

also note: long island's trees turn colors late october. upstate and new england turn earlier. you should find info if you google it.

  • Seattle area in the foot hills has some VERY pretty fall weather!

  • If you're looking at flying, sign up for SouthWest emails and you'll find some good deals. I'm not sure exactly where they fly (they do more than the south west!), so check it out!
  • Gatlinburg, Tennessee!
  • For $1000 budget, I'd recommend finding somewhere within a reasonable driving distance, that way you can dedicate more of your budget to lodging, food and activities.  You should ask this question on your local tripadvisor forum as they will probably have better recommendations for you.

Asheville, NC is a mountain city. Gorgeous.

I highly recommend going on Groupon.com for major travel deals.
  • Galveston, TX is gorgeous. The Ozarks is also a beautiful place and have some nice lodges. Vegas or the Grand Canyon are both somewhat close to you as well.
  • My family loves going to the Smoky Mountains. Its beautiful in the fall.

  • Massachusetts. Preferably in the Berkshires, but really anywhere in the state offers a beautiful and classic fall. Leaves changing color, crisp weather, the whole thing. Mass Vacation has a page on Massachusetts' weddings here: http://www.massvacation.com/explore/weddings/

  • You could try Oregon. The place is full of leaves of a bunch of different colors, it is also fairly cheap. For 1000, you could probably get a decent hotel even.
  • Hmm Vermont or Maine should be nice. I've been to Vermont a few times, but I think it was in the summer and the winter. It is beautiful there though and i'm sure it would be gorgeous in the fall. I went to Maine in the summer and it was really nice as well.
  • Anywhere in the New England area is gorgeous in the fall.  I'm sure you could find some inexpensive hotels/things to do in that area.  Asheville, NC is also very pretty too.

  • I know it may seem corny but the Fi and i are going camping for our honeymoon. It may be simple but that is what makes it perfect, just me, him, the stars in the sky, roasting weanies and s'mores, a hours spent cuddling under a sleeping bag with no possibility of being interrupted by room services. Although if my fi has anything to do with it most of it will be spent playing multi player PSP games (he's a video game nerd but I love him).
  • if your budget is 1000 total then i agree with the pp-stay somewhere local within driving distance.

  • Durango, CO.  It is within driving distance for you.  There is an historic narrow gauge railroad stream train that takes you up into the mountains for the day to Silverton CO, and the views are spectlar in October.  There may even be a bit of snow up in Silverton.  Very romantic.  Here is the website:

You should reserve tickets in advance.  There is also a wonderful Southern Ute Cultural Center and Museum  museum south of Durango in the town of Ignacio.  It is next to the (surprise) casino that is run by the tribe.

There are plenty of places to stay in Durango.  Check www.tripadvisor.com.

Driving to the west of Durango is Mesa Verde National Park.  The park is only partially open in October, but you still see some of the Anasazi ruins from the roads.  It will be cold.  If you are going in early October, you can reserve a room within the park at the Lodge.  Totally worth it!
