Ring shopping help

Re: Ring shopping help

  • I went to Tiffany.  To Ross Simons.  And to 4 or 5 local Boston jewelers.  None of them had exactly what I wanted in the budget we wanted.

We ended up buying my ring on a trip to Mexico from Diamonds International.  We got a great deal!

My advice:  Know your 4 C's.  Know ABOUT what you should be spending for the size, clarity, cut, and color of diamond you want...and don't over pay.  Make sure you see the diamond OUTSIDE of the setting.  A lot of times, jewelers will set diamonds so that the prongs hide their flaws.  Pre-set diamonds have a tendency to be poorer quality because of it...(I learned that bit from a friend who is a jeweler.)

    Good luck!
  • All depends on what you want. My boyfriend and I shopped for my soon-to-be ring together and decided that a diamond wasn't what I wanted. We wanted to keep price down but style up. I ended up going with a Titanium ring (for its durability, beauty, and price) and Moissanite - again, beauty and price are key for me. Also had two sapphire's thrown in because I've been set on three-stone setting for ages. Do your research before you make any final decisions. Google knows everything and there are tons of pictures and videos out there of different styles and stones to help you decide.

Most importantly though... HAVE FUN! Ring shopping was so much fun and a real bonding experience for us. It helped us understand how we handle money, making decisions together, and our individual styles. It was also very important for me to be involved in picking my ring because, after discussing it with him, I would have gotten something entirely different that what I wanted. I'm going to wear this thing for years to come - I'm glad I did my research ahead.

I'd highly recommend Titaniumrings.com if you're interested in titanium and/or Moissanite.
