Registry item back ordered

I got an email today from our Macy's registry saying a gift from one of our guests has been delayed (backordered) and won't be delivered until the end of the month, do I send a thank you card now or when I receive the gift? The guest's name was listed in the email.

    Hadn't thought it through other than letting them know I'm aware it's on its way. They sent a group of items and only one of the items is backordered. Thanks for the advice!

    @ambybambi1125 - if they sent you multiple gifts I would write the TY right away.  Thank them for what you've received and let them know you saw the additional item is on its way and thank them for that as well.  When you actually get the item send a follow-up email / text / call to let them know it arrived.

    If it had just been the one backordered item I would have agreed to wait.
