Anyone ever edit their own wedding video?

One company we have looked at has an option that they will just do the shooting and give you the memory card so you can edit the video yourself to save $. My fiance took a video production class in high school and wants to give it a shot. Anyone ever do this? Not sure what I think of the idea.

My fiance was thinking of doing this as well, so I'd also be interested in seeing if anyone did this.  Do you mind me asking which company you were thinking about?  We haven't had much luck finding a company that would just give the raw footage.

My fiance will be editing our wedding video.  He and his friends were very involved with their school station growing up.  Many of his friends have done this as well.  It's a great hobby for them, and the videos that I have seen so far from his friends are awesome!

We have a professional shooting the video and editing - but I have also asked for an option to include all raw footage.  

We will not have a "teaser" or whatever they are called - and I could see myself editing a condensed video with the additional footage. So, to answer your question, yes and no.

If you have editing skills, I see no reason not to do this.

The company that we found that will do this is http://www.inanyeventproductions.com/  My fiance says there is a big difference between raw footage on a dvd and the original cards. He said raw footage on a dvd gets compressed. He wants the original cards.

I am glad the hear others have done this or are doing this and it is a real option.   We probably could add some things shot by the guests as well if he edits. We can even have short and long versions. Or a special version for our parents.  I am thinking my fiance is going to be doing more editing than he realizes lol!
