Re: Paging @KnotPorscha, @KnotJackie

  • I grew up with HP, its ingrained into me and I love all the characters like family. I still cry when I read the books and watch the movies. When the Harry Potter Expo came the the Pacific Science Center I went TWICE and cried.

  • I can't stand HP. No offense y'all.

I tried to read the books, just never got into it. I have seen some of the movies though, lol.

  • I've never read the books either. Seen bits of the first movie I think and maybe one of the other ones.

I love the Narnia books though--read those multiple times each.

@mobkaz, what censorship are you talking about?
There have been some posts in recent weeks that have received much emotionally charged attention.  I cannot recall the "title" of the thread, but the most striking one of late involved a poorly worded response in regards to miscarriages.

I agree that thread became a train wreck.  It took on a life of its own. It absolutely boiled my blood. I know that posters actually suggested/requested it be deleted.  However, one mantra that I have read and reread from "regs" infinitum is that you cannot tell a poster what to say or post.  I have also seen posts lately that seem to maintain a "tattle tale" attitude when the responses suddenly don't go the way they want.

I'm not trying to start any arguments...it just seems in the past few weeks/months there has been a trend toward hypocrisy between what is said and what is done.  I am not as well versed in knowing the "players", or the threads as some of the other posters, so forgive my inability to quote specific threads.
I'm still not sure what the hell you're talking about, I'm not even sure the above post counts as grammar, but what does this have to do with Retread being banned for extensive harassment of specific posters?

Typically,  I would walk away from this post.  I am not motivated to engage with people who feel the need to insert unnecessary grammar snark.   I will offer the benefit of a doubt and acknowledge that you have a typographical error ( I'm still not sure what the hell you're talking about, I'm not even sure the above post counts as grammar, but what does this have to do with Retread being banned for extensive harassment of specific posters?).  However, it does appear that you made insult of my grammar by using a run-on sentence.

Thank you, @Queerfemme.  The funeral thread was exactly one of the posts I was referencing.   At least twice, I called out Retread for her comments.  One was regarding worst wedding gifts ever, and another was for handkerchiefs.  Both those threads disappeared.  In hindsight now, I realize two things.  Posters formerly known as "mods" had the power to delete threads of their choosing.  When Retread had no witty recourse, she deleted instead.

I am not able to recall the threads, but there have been a few more where posters have asked for the thread to be deleted because it has gotten out of hand.  My point is that this trend surprises me.

My comment relates because of what the original poster asked.  The Knot gods can (justifiably) ban "abusers" with no commentary.  But posts are now also being deleted for content.  Will the missing posts be differentiated as to why they were deleted?  Who will determine when/what content has gone too far?

When FI and I were first dating, the last movie was set to come out in like 6 months.  He knew that I was obsessed with HP so he requested that we marathon watch movies 1-7 so that he could take me to see the 8th.  I knew then he was a keeper.
My awesome FIL's threw a weekend long Harry Potter Party when the last movie came out.  We watched all of the movies (ending with seeing the last one in theatre) and had Harry Potter themed snacks.
  • Stage, I think the thread mobkaz is referring to started off as an innocent thread - perhaps called "I found out I attended a PPD" or something like that.    People chimed in on what was and wasn't OK and gave personal experiences.

Then CMGr came in and said that she was asked to play the organ at her church for the funeral of a dead baby only to find out that it wasn't a real baby but a fetus.    (I'm paraphrasing).   Many people (myself included) were completely outraged and the response was not apologetic.   Instead, additional fuel was added to the fire with "I'm not going to convince you right to life people."   (quotes used but again, I'm paraphrasing).

The thread continued for at least another page with many posters outraged that a thread about PPDs suddenly morphed into comparing a PPD to the funeral of a child that died at less than 20 weeks in utero.

Ultimately, many posters paged KnotPorscha to delete the thread and it's now gone.
  • I'm not familiar with the gay marriage thread but that one took on a life of its own. I'm no newb and it stands out as one of the most heated I can recall on E.
  • I was like 35 when I discovered Harry Potter.

    Sorry for the dead-thread-revival...

I always come back like a week after the super BSC, how do I manage that?

Retread got banned? Last I was here, she'd not long been made a mod... Apparently those no longer exist.

Stage and Addie are now the only two names I even vaguely recognise.

I was reading the first page or so of this thinking "who the hell banned Voldemort?", then that freakin awesome post popped up!

I love HP (I'm 26). I cry at least once through each book, even though I've read each, and seen each movie, at least four times.
That damn Snape chapter in the final book still absolutely kills me. I'd got an inkling through HBP that Snape really was a Dumbledude, but when I first read that chapter... I'll never forget that.

I did the studio tour in March (living in the UK has finally provided one worthwhile point), it's epic. You're left to get on with it as well, so you go round completely at your own pace and spend as much or as little time as you wish.
Butter beer is the drink from the Gods.

Anyway, just going through catching up with the cray. I can't get over how much this place has changed.
So, maybe things don't always go as planned... Maybe that's okay. I may be alone for now, but my baby boy is on his way, and I wouldn't change a thing.
  • I am going to show my non-geek status... I had to google "lord voldemort".
I mean this way in the nicest way possible, but it isn't because you aren't a geek, it is because you are old. Sorry. Harry Potter is a kid's book. When the first one came out I was a kid. I kept reading them into adulthood because I like Harry and friends, but if JK Rowling hadn't gotten her claws into me at an early age, I wouldn't have read them. If I was 10 years older when they came out, I wouldn't have been interested.

Um, I was 19 when I read my first HP book.
I was in my 30s...my boys were reading them and I wanted to know what the hell they were talking about. LMAO Once I read the first one, I wanted to know how it would end.

I didn't read Twilight til I was 40  (I'm 41 now *gasp*) and then read them all in a week.  They were ok, but idk what the huge deal was. Aaaaand, I am one of only a couple people I know who haven't read the 50 Shades books. I started, but about half through the first one I put it down to work on a craft project and just never picked it back up.

I was 28, and by the end I was a full-out, at the bookstore at midnight, wearing a robe geek. It was fun, and I still love them now.

This is not possible as you have not made it to 35. I can't believe that.

    @Harry87

    Awww,thanks!
