Monday accountability

Good Morning!

Got through a good leg day yesterday with a short ab workout.  Food stayed good, too.  Sadly, didn't get a long walk in because of the storms.

Today will be an arm workout, and our splurge day for the week.  Tomorrow is apparently national cheesecake day, and H got some coupon from Cheesecake Factory for today, so we're going to go split a piece of cheesecake with my mom for dinner.  I'm just hoping I can convince them not to get two pieces to split three ways (their current plan), as I'd rather just get one piece to split in thirds so that it's not much of a splurge at all.

Have a great day everyone!

Re: Monday accountability

  • Morning all!

Yesterday was more of the same, except for the food part. I did a bad, bad thing ...

First of all, I ended up hangry, because I didn't eat breakfast. The plan was supposed to be to try a gourmet burger place, but FI decided to make himself some eggs at his mom's place while he was packing up some more stuff to bring back with us. So, no burgers. Then, I had some last minute stuff to do without the kids, so it was almost 230 before I got to eat anything. My parents were having us over for supper at 5, so I couldn't have a lot.

Then, about 930, I decided that i couldn't leave town without nachos from my used-to-be-favourite pizza place. Luckily, they weren't as good as I remembered, but still not something I needed.

We're back on the road today. I'm not sure if I'll be camping for the next few days or taking care of GM's little boy while the men take their road trip. I guess we'll figure that out today.

I'm tired of being on the road. As exciting as it is to be so close to the wedding, we're pretty tired and would like to be home already, back into our routine.

    Have a good Monday everyone!

  • Morning @lobsters25 -

I hear you on the dessert front. It's always so hard when other people want more dessert. Keep us updated on the dog I hope it is okay :(

Yesterday was a rest day because I was so frustrated about a couple things and had to deal with them that it just made me not want to work out. My car wouldn't start at all, so I call AAA, they come out, and guy says its just your battery, let me boost it wait 10 minutes then drive to your mechanic because you need a new one (and I agreed looking at it). I asked him are you sure we shouldn't just tow it (would only cost me about 15 so I didn't care). He assures me it will be fine and leaves. FI and I wait around for 10 minutes, and I get in my car and move it into reverse and it shuts off. Cue me calling AAA again (and having to wait another hour), for another tow truck to come, I tell him what happens and he just pulls my car onto the truck and we drive to my mechanics. Now I wait and see what its going to be :(

Then last night we had a super thunderstorm. In the fall/winter after we bought our house we realized we had a leak in our roof over our living room/family room. It was supposed to be fixed in the home inspection and when we looked in our final walk through it appeared it had been. Well it hadn't and over 1000 dollars later, between new siding, insulation, flashing, shingles, and a new support beam (because thats how long their leak had been there), we thought we were good to go. Last night we are sitting there and we see a little dark circle on the ceiling right where the leak 'used' to be. FI gets up on a chair and touches it, spots wet. FML. Now we are just trying to figure out what to do - we've had a ton of storms since this was fixed, including heavy rain like last night and nothing. So we aren't sure if its the roof or something else. Part of me is thinking its the roof and stick with my gut, but FI isn't so sure.

Food was just under but I was all over the place with what I ate. I had a huge craving for cheerios. Plain cheerios. I don't know why but I had 2 bowls. I'm hoping to get a good run in, or maybe try insanity or p90x.
    Happy Monday?

    Morning.

    Enjoy your cheesecake @lobsters25!
@bwils35, I hope today goes better for you today.

This weekend was tough. Friday I had a rest day and my food was good. Saturday we ran a local 5K race. They had a mass start but an individual finish time, so our time was off since we started in the middle of the pack, and didn't actually cross the start line until about 30 seconds after the clock started. So our official finish time is 28:50. I got 28:23 by my watch. I'm okay with that time since the first 1.25 miles were a horrid hill. H isn't happy with and wants to do another soon to try and beat that time. Food was good Saturday too. Sunday we did a long run, about 7.25 miles. I definitely need to start experimenting with fuel, gels or shotblocks or HEED in my waterbottle or something once I hit around 6 miles. I need it for sure, so time to figure that out. Our eating a was a ball of crazy bad yesterday. Like horrible, bad, bad. Today was supposed to be a rest day, but I ate so terribly yesterday I couldn't stomach not getting a short workout in, so I ran 2.5 miles this morning.

My training schedule for the week is completely throw off now by not taking today off too. So I need to readjust and I'm thinking tomorrow will be a "rest day". And by that I mean skip my morning workout and do a spin-run brick in the evening. That counts as a rest day, 36 hours in between instead of 48, right..? I will, most definitely, take a rest day Friday though. And my tri friend and former camp nurse co-worker and I are trying to scrounge up an open water swim location for Saturday morning. Iron Girl is on Sunday and I have a very lofty goal of under 2 hours. Which reminds me, I need to take my bike in, my back tire is rubbing my brake and it needs a tune up. Ack, time to do that this week. Bleck.

    Happy Monday, maybe.

  • Good morning.

@lobsters25, enjoy the cheesecake! I made that mistake last week but it was AMAZING. :)

@bwils35, I hope it gets better. Keep your chin up!

Well, this weekend was a crap weekend for food. Moms bday dinner was hibachi which I made into three meals... Good but I shouldn't have it period. We were really bad sat night and drank so I slept and ate grease all day yesterday to recover. Good note was Fi and I spent the entire day together and I loved it. So relaxing.

Today I am back on the wagon. 5 small meals, working out... So on and so forth.  375 days till the wedding so I need to keep my eye on the prize! Fi bday is Friday but I have a plan to survive this bday without over eating!

    Happy Monday!!

  • Good morning.

    @lobsters25 Yum! Cheesecake!

@bwils35 Good luck with your car and roof troubles!

@cnf2013 Good job on your race and long run this weekend!

This weekend was really great.  FI and I spent the whole weekend together, just the two of us.  Usually we are so busy on weekends, visiting family or friends, or FI is working over time or something.  But it was just the two of us hanging out at home all weekend long.  So relaxing.

Today's workout is strength training and stretching.  And, if everything goes as planned, I should be perfectly on track calorie-wise.

  • @kwith, Oatmeal are Fi fav too. Hope they were wonderful!

@lovelyheather, I did the same with mine. It is so wonderful to just connect and be with each other. Glad it was good for you two! Good luck with cals today!!

  • Morning everyone! The weekend was good, workout wise - I'm on track with T25 and enjoying it so far, even with the double-workout I had to put in on Saturday. Food-wise I'm way off track, trending under calories rather than over since being sick seems to have killed my appetite, and with studying I'm not making time for real meals. Yesterday all ate was left-over Thai food, ice cream, Cheez-Its, and popcorn. Not exactly healthy choices. I'm looking forward to the exam being over so I can have an easier time staying on track with food.

Hope everyone has a great day, and sorry I can't respond to all the posts in the thread - I'm still trying to learn a few subjects before Wednesday!

@arl3312 - good luck on the bar exam if you don't check in!!
    @mrsrutkowski - happy wedding week!
@bwils35 - I really hope the roof is OK.  It is so frustrating when you don't know how to fix the problem.
@cnf2013 - whatever you decide to try, try it after 4 miles or 40 minutes. If you're feeling tired after 6, that might be too late.

So I ran my first double-digit long run on Saturday and it was good.  My one friend ran the first 4 with me and another friend ran the next 6, so it wasn't boring at all.  The run was good... until we stopped.  My IT band was ANGRY and so was my hip and lower back.  Ice, stretch, ice, stretch, 3 ibuprofen, ice, stretch, 3 more ibuprofen and finally 2 martinis did the trick.  No pain yesterday or today but I'm still going to PT for a tune-up.  I can't get lazy with stretching!

This week is 3-4-4-12.  I might flip the 12 with next week's long run which is a step-back week to 8 miles, to rest my IT.  We will see.

    Good day everyone!

  • Morning! This weekend was just okay. Not the greatest. Not the worst.

@Giaspo way to go on the long run! Glad it wasn't boring, but bummer about the ITB issue :/ Sounds like a smart idea to swap weeks.

@lovelyheather yay for a weekend with just the man! It's funny because I'm the opposite. H left yesterday and I'm sooo happy to have alone time! lol.

@kwitherington Sorry that the car errands are such a pain. I hate dealing with car stuff. Even just going to get the oil changed. HATE it. Feels like such a waste of time.

Anyone done a Spartan race of any sort?
  • @firsttimersluck Oh, I love having time by myself too.  FI is going out of town this weekend and I am looking forward to it sooo much.  "Me time" is the best.  I hope it is sunny this weekend because I would like to spend most of the weekend by the pool with a book.

@Giaspo I hope your IT band is okay!  Mine started causing some trouble after Wednesday's run, so I took Thursday and Friday as rest days (well, Fridays are always rest days for me).  It seemed fine on Saturday for 3 miles and Sunday for 8.  Hopefully a little extra rest and some PT will do the trick.

  • @giaspo - ugh, sorry to hear about the ITB pain! Glad to hear you're taking care of it though.

@firsttimersluck - I've done the spartan and the warrior dash! They are both a lot of fun.

@arl3312 - good luck with the exam!! You will feel so good when it's done.

This weekend I ate terribly. I celebrated my dress fitting on Friday by going to Menchies, and then didn't exercise/ate like crap all day Saturday (New York Fries for lunch!). Sunday was good until pizza for dinner, but I also didn't get in any exercise - not good considering I have a triathlon in 2 weeks!
  • @Jaenella, hope the fitting was awesome!! Good luck in the triathlon!!

    Getting Hitches 08/09/2014

  • @giaspo - Have you tried foam rolling it? Whenever mine gets tight a good foam roll 2x a day seems to help.
@arl3312 - you are so close good luck!
@firsttimersluck - my friends want to do a spartan in october but I'm not sure yet!

We just got blasted for an hour and a half in our meeting about not doing research fast enough.

Rains it pours right @kwitherington. Ugh.
  • Hi ladies! Hope you all had a great weekend. I so 't have much to report on yesterday. Food wasn't great because we had both brunch and dinner out. We did manage to get to the grocery store and prep for the week. No workout yesterday, it was a planned rest day.

Half marathon training officially starts this week. I need to figure out how I'm going to fit in lifting, running, and rest around FI's school schedule.
  • @bwils35 which one? I am signed up for the Spartan Sprint in October! I wanted to do the intermediate one, but the sprint is the only one in the area.

@jaenella What were the things you hated the most? I have done mud runs before and am in pretty reasonable shape so I'm not terribly concerned, but I still like to know what I am getting myself into!
  • edited July 2013
@nonosgirl what are you using for your half training? I have been doing some "prep" running to start half training myself! (by "prep" I mean, running 3 miles three times a week to warm up. I'm in pretty killer cardiovascular shape, but haven't been running a lot this summer so the last couple weeks I have been reminding them whassup :P )
ETA: if we use the same plan, maybe we could hold each other accountable :)
  • Morning...err.. Afternoon everyone!

I decided to sleep in today, until 11. Had major cuddle time with H and Gibbs. Then decided to finally get out of bed and make bacon and scrambled eggs.

I'm so tempted to make my favourite brownie recipe and will probably give in to that temptation. I'm on a major chocolate kick right now and don't want to break out of it.

Weekend was alright. Was over on calories again last night, but not by much. Tomorrow I will go to Body Pump! I'm kind of excited for it. I'm determined to go at least once a week now but missed last week because they were doing the new release classes and people had to sign up well in advance, so by the time I found out about them, they were all full.

Today I'll probably take Gibbs for a long walk if my feet behave. Have major blisters on two of the bigger toes on my left foot. It's been painful and I'm not sure how it happened.

  • Hey girls! Ah can't believe it's wedding week!!!!! I'm very excited but today is also bittersweet because it's the anniversary of my mom's passing. So I'm quite emotional. The weekend eating was pretty good, I caved on the carbs and had some popcorn. I've been good with working out too and today did boot camp and Zumba. Trying not to emotional eat. Have a good day!

Aw, @mrsrutkowski, that's definitely a bittersweet start to wedding week. A little emotional eating might be okay - sounds like you're right on track.  And I can't wait to see pictures!  Wedding pictures, that is, not emotional eating pictures.
I am always down for a picture of popcorn.  Or ice cream.  Or a brownie (hear that @swimmy1988?)  Just for that @kwitherington, with your selective photo appreciation, I am going to take a picture of my cheesecake for you tonight. :)

PS, now I feel like we need a GIF food fight.  Probably a terrible idea...

And let this not detract from the fact that we do totally want wedding photos @mrsrutkowski

  • Good afternoon! Late check in for me again.

Weekend was sort of EH. Ate to maintenance Friday & Saturday, yesterday I was about 150 cals over goal. Friday I got an afternoon walk in but no other intentional exercise. Saturday i was a bum. Yesterday I got a bike ride in with DH and then when he left for work I also went out to do C25K (week 1 day 3). My neighborhood is still way sketchier than I truly feel comfortable with (I ran the same route we'd biked earlier in the day together - figured that would make me feel safer and it didn't). Gonna have to keep modifying my route to figure out where is OK and where isn't. I feel like I should start carrying pepper spray or something with me though just in case.

QUESTION FOR RUNNERS: Do you always have your headphones in while running? I found that this more than anything is what made me feel unsafe, because I couldn't hear if someone was yelling at me or if someone was approaching me from behind. Do you just keep one ear in and one ear out? How do you deal with this?

I will try to read everyone else's updates when I get a moment.
    image
  • @entropicbeauty I pretty much always have my headphones in on my trail runs. I don't run outside on concrete, but if I did I would probably keep one out.
  • @entropicbeauty - I live in a very safe/quiet neighborhood and usually have both in. I always run on the opposite side of the road so I can see whats oncoming car wise (if there isn't a sidewalk). If I'm running through an area I do not know, or haven't driven in frequently, I'll keep one out.
  • @firsttimersluck - I was looking at the Hal Higdon novice and intermediate plans but I'm just not sure what to do. I've run 3 halfs but it was awhile ago so novice 2 sounds best for me but I know I want to do at least one day of speed work. I think I'm going to use the two plans to make my own. Also FI is going to run the half for the first time so I'm trying to keep him in mind too. He's never been into running and really only took it up about 4 months ago. A few weeks back we ran 5 miles on a Saturday morning when he was hung over, this convinced him he could do a half. I think his longest run yet is just short of 6 miles so this should be fun!
  • @entropicbeauty - I absolutely cannot run outside (concrete or trail) with my headphones in. I'm paranoid that I won't hear something I need too. Generally what I do is wrap the ear buds around the straps of my sports bra and then increase the volume so I can just hear it. This can be uncomfortable but I've found it's what works best for me.
  • thanks ladies - I guess I'll try one in and one out for the time being till I find a route that I think feels safe enough or just forever.
    image
  • Happy wedding week @mrsrutowski!!

@entropicbeauty, I run with my headphones on the whole time. I wear the behind the head kind because I freaking hate earbuds, so they're either both on or not at all. I just try to avoid the sketchy parts of my town. I know where I can and can't run. I'd also like to think that the scary people aren't out at 6am, which is probably wishful thinking on my part.
