In Suite Reception

Hello darlings! Here's my latest qualm.  My FI & I are pretty gung ho about an in suite reception & we've decided to go with the Media Suite @ MB.  Well, then my mother chimes in and says that people are not going to want to hold their plates in their laps to eat.  In my mind, I want more of a cocktail party feel and less of that traditional sit down reception feel.  Can anyone offer some words of advice to help calm my mom down?  Thanks!

Re: In Suite Reception

  • I think most people won't be expecting a traditional reception setting especially with it being in Vegas. At least that's the kind of feed back I've gotten. We are also having ain suite rreception with some appetizers and cake. Not really planning on getting tables just as long as guests have a seat I think that will be fine with them! Good luck :)

  • Thanks Valerie!
  • That's EXACTLY what we did!  Media Suite at MB!  We had hot and cold appetizers (still had leftovers and guests said they were full) and we bought our own alcohol and partied it up (but kept it tame enough while the grandparents were there.)  Every single one of our guests loved it!  There is not really room for a dance floor so if you are wanting to have a dj and dance the night away, this suite may not be for you unless you want to move furniture around.  There are places to sit, but I found most of our guests were up mingling around anyways.  How many guests do you plan on having?  We had 30 and it was a perfect size.
  • I kind of lean in your mom's direction on seating, but not from an eating perspective.  I feel like if you're going to have a party, your guests need places to sit down, especially if there's a wide range of ages, dancing, booze, etc..  The media suite only has seating for about 18, so if you are talking 30+ guests, half your guests may not be able to sit down at any given point in time.  Maybe you could look into having RSVP bring chairs in for you if you're going to have a lot of guests in there.

  • Just getting back from vacay with the FI & just able to see your responses!  Thanks again for the input.  We are looking into chair rentals & my mom wants to make a scouting trip so we can see exactly what we're working with.
