Event Insurance

Has anyone used or heard of Event Insurance?  I am having my wedding at a friends property and want to make sure there protected.  I have googled it but want to make sure it is safe to use these online companies.  Any tips or advice would be great!

Re: Event Insurance

  • I coordinate two events annually and the national office gets an event insurance policy. I don't recall the company the insurance is through but I know they use a local agent... To be safe, I'd at least have a chat with a local insurance agent and see if they can send you in the right direction before blindly buying a policy online. Good luck!

  • My FMIL called her home owner's insurance company to add event insurance. Ultimately we won't need it as we are going with a different venue but it would have been easy to get. Have you looked at who has your home/renter's/car insurance? I would look there first.

  • We contacted our homeowner insurance and had it handled through them.

We have having a DW in Florida in November (last month of hurricane season) and are looking at event insurance. I didn't know it could be added to my homeowner's insurance. Going to do that, because they're local vs. going through an online agency. Learn something new every day on these boards! :-)

  • Call your insurance carrier (auto, life, homeowners, etc.) and ask about "liability insurance" for an event. Tell them it's a wedding. They'll ask you where, how many people, etc. We needed it for our venue - I don't think it was more than $15 or something, but my H handled it.

  • My venue told me that it would be a waste, but since you're friend doesn't have any insurance of their own for an event like this (I'm assuming) maybe it's worth it.  I'd make sure to ask the company you go through to make sure it would cover your friend's items since they're not really a "venue".  Also remember that nothing covers a change of heart!
