    I completely support the pastor. This is not an appropriate dress for a church. How could the bride not know this?

    That's what my FI thought too!  Any chance the bride just didn't want to get married and didn't know how to break it to her FI?  If my priest didn't like my dress and thought it was inappropriate for some reason, you can bet your behind I'd run and find something worthy.  I also think this since the couple didn't break it to the guests themselves...
