Misshart00 - Why is she banned?

Re: Misshart00 - Why is she banned?

  • @MuppetOverlord IP addresses change over time. And there aren't enough IPs for everyone on the internet, so they get recycled. It's possible her IP address changed some time last week (if you reset your router, for example) and she ended up with the same IP as the spammer had a few months ago. Quite a coincidence, but possible.

So, let me see if I have it all right.

    • I was banned between 7 and 8 o'clock central time after commenting on a controversial thread.
    • This was an autoban done by your computer system.
    • My IP happened the be the same as a spammer (which someone pointed out is plausable).
    • It took two months for this IP ban to go through.

So here are my questions based on the above:

    1. Why is your computer system autobanning when there is no one around to potentially fix mistakes?

    2. If there really was a spammer that needed to be banned from 2 months ago, who was it?

    3. Why does your computer system take two months to autoban a spammer?

    4. Can you, as a KG, not ban a spammer with the click of a button?

    5. If my IP address was not changed, how did it get on the list to be banned?

    6. What powers specifically do your secret mods have?  Or what powers will they have once you have them online?

Again, you can answer in a PM if that makes you more comfortable.

    1. Why is your computer system autobanning when there is no one around to potentially fix mistakes? As I mentioned, we’re working through this to make our system better and more efficient.

    2. If there really was a spammer that needed to be banned from 2 months ago, who was it? The spammer was banned 2 months ago and the IP connected to it was connected to yours as well. Looks like when a scan went through this weekend, it picked up your account.

    3. Why does your computer system take two months to autoban a spammer? It didn’t – the spammer was banned. Your account was picked up because of the related IP- but again, this is not OK and we’re working on it.

    4. Can you, as a KG, not ban a spammer with the click of a button? We can. The system does it to get rid of some of the spam and to avoid the creation of AE accounts.

    5. If my IP address was not changed, how did it get on the list to be banned? The system picks up IPs within a range automatically- that is what we are working on changing so that only banned accounts with specific IPs stay banned. We are going to look into why it only picked yours up now and not when it was first implemented. The system did ban you, not any admin or “secret mod.”

    6. What powers specifically do your secret mods have?  Or what powers will they have once you have them online? No moderators are active right now. We’re still working through roles and will list out what they can and cannot do. The reason we are thinking about keeping their identities “secret” is to avoid users calling them out/attacking them. However, nothing is final and we may change our thoughts on that as we have read all of the user feedback.

  • Doing a scan seems like a legit reason. Otherwise, calling out / attacking a mod is totally bogus "reasoning", if it can even be called reasoning.
