Re: Unpopular Opinions/ Pet Peeves - October

  • People who want to celebrate Halloween at work and expet employer to host some kind of event. You are adults people, and events cost money!

Adults who go trick/treating and expect candy from you.

People who bug my friend about why she didn't invite so and so to her wedding. Her wedding was 6 months ago.

    Pet Peeves:
We got a new phone system at work.  If you aren't going to leave a voicemail hang up before my message comes on.  The light keeps coming on and I have to log into the voicemail system just to listen to people hanging up.

I'm an assistant for a VP.  When I tell my reps to fix something or make changes to paperwork they go crying to my boss.  Ummm hello?? Who do you think told me that things need to be changed?

    ETA: because I forgot this...
I take kickboxing at CKO.  Almost every time I'm there someone has a cigarette right outside the door.  I go to the gym to try and be healthy.  I don't want to smell your cigarette smoke while I'm trying to work out.  It's disgusting!

  • I wish the weather here in FL would make up its mind. Yesterday, overcast, in the 60s with the cold, damp chill factor. By late afternoon, sunny, in the low 80s. Now it's supposed to be in the high 80s through the weekend. I'm ready for my crisp, clear "FALL" days thank you!

PP combo: I tend to be the one who cleans the kitchen, though FI takes care of all floors. At times he will offer to unload dishwasher for me. Great. But I get home from work, exhausted, and its not done, but there's a pile of cups, plates, and silverware in the sink for me to deal with. Grr. Combo tie in- I empty dishwasher, put dishes and whatnot from sink into dishwasher. FI sees this, yet still cannot figure out that when he's done with his cup/plate/knife, he can rinse and put it in the dishwasher by opening the door.

PP: FI is full time student, no problem with that. What bugs the hell out of me is when I get home, need to prep dinner, and he won't move his stuff off our dining table. I get to shove it to one side.

PP: After rereading these two/three PPs, I realize I've become my mother. AAAAAHHH!!

  • Pet Peeve #1: People who speed through their call back number when leaving a message on my work voicemail. I never call those people back. I just smile and nod and delete their voice mail message so that red blinking light stops. I don't have time to listen to your message 7 times just to call you back.

I sound silly when I leave my call back number to people because I say it nice and slow; but I guarantee you they only have to listen to my message once.

When I'm leaving a message, I always repeat my name and my number. "This is ElcaB calling about blah blah blah. You can reach me at 555-1234. That's ElcaB at 555-1234."

New pet peeve: Houses that pass out pennies or dimes for Halloween. Obviously I don't trick-or-treat anymore, but I remember those houses...they were the worst. Get some candy like a decent human being!

I use to hate the houses that passed out travel size toothpaste.
  • My UO- I hate Molly Ringwald movies. I am not a big fan of John Hughes movies in general.

My PP- Cars who stop on the highway instead of merging. I saw a car stopped on the on ramp to 93 last night.

  • @bubbles053009 : Not a pet peeve, but I just noticed your Boondock Saints quote, LOVE that movie...
  • At that line I always think to myself, no the cat's just sleeping...in a thousand pieces spread all over the wall...

    Stuck in the box:

I have determined that MA drivers are the most merge challenged of anywhere I've ever driven.

  •
MA drivers suck in general and I say that as a MA driver. It seems that most people don't know how to use a directional and think they can drive however they want to. It does not take much apparently to get your license here.
That's what I told myself when I pulled a U turn in the DD parking lot. It's Mass everyone drives like this!
  • Luckily for me, I live and work on the red line. It makes commuting much easier. I can't imgine driving the commute here. I am astonished at the traffic on a Sunday morning. There is traffic all.the.time.

No it really doesn't.  I bumped over a curb during my road test and still got my license.  They call us (general) Massholes for a reason.  Luckily I live very close to the commuter rail so getting to work in downtown is pretty easy and don't have to drive in the actually city.

  • Okay, this is a real one. Ladies (and some Gentlemen), please, I know you love your perfume but for gods sakes two spritzes should be enough! If the ghost of your perfume is detectable from around a street corner, in a stairwell, or the damn breakroom and you're not there anymore you are wearing too much perfume!

UO: I hate sexy/slinky sheath wedding dresses.  It's a wedding.  Not a wedding porno.

PP: Cyclists who don't obey traffic laws.  I live in Chicago and there are TONS of people who do this! I get that it's great that your biking saves the planet, but don't be a hipster douche about it and obey the fucking rules!!!!
Don't ever move to Denver. The bikers there are ridiculous and rude.

I say mine twice, nice and slow.

Because, sadly, I have to listen to their damn messages umpteen-frajillion times so I can call them back.

PP: Fuck you WalMart with your Christmas decorations out already.  FUCK YOU!!!

UO:  I pretty much hate ALL bridal shows on TLC. SYTTD is balls.  My Fair Wedding is bullshit and unrealistic for the majority of couples I know.  4 Weddings is just putting women into a dumb competition with one another.

However...I do love Bridezillas.  I can't explain that.  That's probably an Unpop Op.  :)

Try The Ironman triathlon in Kailua Kona. You'll rip your hair out. I'm currently in this hell.

We saw the signs when we were there last Dec.  I bet that does indeed suck.  Boulder's an everyday problem though...

Another UO: Conventions...you know...the kind where people spend all year on a costume of a character that they will wear once.  And they have multiple costumes.  I don't get it...

Another PP: - Little yappy dogs that charge at me and my dog and the owner does nothing.  My dog is very sweet and generally stays away from annoying dogs, but when your dog charges at us when we're just walking...yeah...not cool.
    - Not having a plan...and then, when we make a plan, changing it last minute.
I and every person I know who makes costumes wear them more than once. Either at multiple cons, for Halloween, for photoshoots, or other events, or whatever. Why would I put that much work into something and then never wear it again?

My pet peeve from last weekend is gawkers. The Renaissance Festival was so damn crowded with people who had never been and seemed to really have no interest in the scene. Why they were there getting in our way I cannot understand. At least I did regain a teeny bit of hope for humanity in that I saw many same-sex couples openly holding hands and such and not getting any shit for it. And to be fair, there were plenty of far stranger things to stare at.

  • I have another UO - I really dislike sweetheart tables. It doesn't bother me if someone else does one, but there's no way I'm sitting at the front of the dining room staring down my guests or lording over them. Or facing the dancing floor and being all, "Dance, monkey!" The placement of the table at my venue stinks.
  • Pet peeves:

    1. People who CONSTANTLY change their Facebook profile picture. I'm talking once or twice a day. Are you really that indecisive? No wait, I think you just crave attention. Speaking of Facebook, I also hate it when people comment on their own pictures from 3 years ago and say things like "best time ever, remember this night Sally?" Clearly you're looking for attention if you're commenting on your own pictures from years ago. No one cares.

    2. People at the office who smell your food and then run over to see what you're eating. They stare into your plate and comment on how good it smells. Why don't I just give you a fork and invite you to dig in?

    3. Loud phone conversations on public transportation at 7 am, especially when I forget my headphones at home.

OMG THIS!!!! I don't like that either. I want to be WITH my guests, not watching them.

Fucking truth if ever there was a truth!  I hate the cyclists here.  It's such a pretentious, holier than though thing here and it makes me crazy.  They are the first ones to scream "share the road" but then refuse to obey the traffic laws and right five across in packs, blocking the road so no one can get past them.   /end vent

ETA:  And a-freaking-men to Boulder being worse.  Boulder was what I had in mind when I commented on the packs blocking the road.
  • @WonderRed : My parents live outside of Boulder and that's where I went to high school. My main line on the way to school was "it's a freaking highway, biker psychos!"

I lived in Ken Caryl for a bit. Holy crap- the bikers were mad!!! Then I found out about Boulder... LMAO

Thank you!  I hate cyclists who ride around like that.

I also can't stand Uggs with shorts.
