Caribbean honeymoon

Hi everyone!  After reading tons and tons of reviews, I could still use some guidance on choosing our honeymoon in the Caribbean. (I'm overwhelmed with choices!)

The date: We will arrive May 26
The budget:  We'd like to stay under $4000 (there is wiggle room here)
All inclusive:   Probably would prefer this, as it just seems to make life easier (not knowing our way around town, etc.)
Activities:  We will probably spend a lot of time on the beach, but would also like a few activities.  We enjoy snorkeling, hiking, golf, etc.
Room:  I really want "ocean front", meaning we can sit on the balcony and see the water.
Resort atmosphere:  Nothing that's going to be a total "party" resort, but still one with a variety of restaurants, activities, etc.
Island:  If we end up on an island that we could go exploring, see local places, etc, that would be great (don't want to be stuck at the resort 24/7)

Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your help!

Re: Caribbean honeymoon

  • Your requirements sound just like ours. It ended up running as just under 4,700 for 7 nights at Sandals Halcyon (St. Lucia) but we have our own little cottage style room that was with a walk out to the beach. It was beautiful and we also wanted to be able to hike. St. Lucia has the Pitons which are incredible. A lot of the Caribbean is pretty flat, so keep that in mind if you truly want to hike. You would be safe with Jamaica as well, but the Bahamas are flatflatflatflatflat. (and Antigua is probably out of your price range if you're wanting to stay around that budget and stay a full week) We looked at Beaches resorts, but Turks + Caicos also seemed pretty flat.

As far as beach and water sports, though, any All-inclusive resort in the Caribbean will offer lots of beach time and water sports (we did kayaking, paddle boarding, water skiing, catamaran, etc all included) so you are pretty much safe with having that stuff included in the area. :)

As far as exploring, we wanted that too (and were looking at just Sandals) which narrowed it down to us to just St. Lucia as Jamaica seemed to have some sketch reviews. It didn't seem like the kind of place you could just wander around, and St. Lucia definitely was.
  • I would choose sandals St.Lucia  there are 3 sandals resorts on the island and you can do activities and eat at all of them.  I would honestly stay away from the Bahamas as it attracts a very young rowdy crowd that is not ideal for honeymooners.  Bermuda is also great for the summer months but it is a very small island and there's not too much to do other than sit on the beach.  I have never been to Jamaica but I would not recommend it based on friends reviews of their trips.
