  • Students,

Could you just for today be on top of things? You have one (super easy) assignment due and need a speech topic. This shouldn't be hard but I've lost faith in your ability to do even the simplest things.

    Your Frustrated, Fed-Up TA

    BF,
I love you for listening to all my venting :) and I can't wait to see you this weekend to carve pumpkins!

  • @phira and @bethsmiles. I've been there. I feel like I might have a good crop of students this year or something. My bio kids are a bit whiny but I genuinely enjoy my chem kids. Phira, it does suck when they realize they don't have what it takes to be a doctor. Beth, I was such a good public speaking student! And I hated it. It was like pulling teeth. You should give them some of my topics - I did serial killer forensic profiling for my informative and talking on the phone & driving for my persuasive and I think I did a eulogy for my special occasion speech. I wanted to do a graduation speech though. Not sure why I chickened out. Here's to a better crop of students next semester for all of us. I like to remind myself that if someone doesn't make it through my class, maybe they shouldn't have been a doctor. Plus they usually have another chance to fix things (and a lot of times, they take me again...so I must be doing something right)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton
  • @blue&white Yeah, it's very hard to deal with students who are SET on being a doctor when they're not doing well. I genuinely want to help them, but some of them just entirely lack the understanding necessary to get through the course. And while nitty gritty cell and molecular bio won't end up being useful every day when you're a doctor, if you can't get through my course, what makes you think you can get through medical school?

Definitely hoping for a better crop next time. They're really sucking up my free time this semester. I had to actually cap the number of meetings this week because so many students wanted to meet with me to discuss the papers we're reading. As if email isn't a thing.

  • @TwoDimes - Don't ever come north. I've been wearing a jacket for over a month, and I'm breaking out the winter coat next week.

    Dear Saturday,

For once, I don't want you to hurry up and get here. I'm still very nervous about getting this tattoo and I'm afraid I'm going to chicken out. I know it's a tattoo I want to have since it is very meaningful and special to me. But I don't do pain.

    Love,
Not sure if it would be safe to take an anti-anxiety pill before I go
You can definitely take an anxiety pill before, if you think it will help. Don't chicken out! They aren't that bad!! (Says the girl with 12.)

    Dear Professor,
I understand that you love your subject and good for you! I love your enthusiasm, but we don't need to know all of the extra things. None of us are chemistry majors, otherwise we would have taken the harder chemistry class. Please bring it back down to a basic level

    Thanks,
    Stressed Student

    Dear  Chemistry Lab TA,
Please learn to speak English. You need to be able to discuss things with your students cause you are giving us all C's and then can't explain why you give us that grade. The answer "You will have to teach me how to say this in English" is not helping us learn anything.

    Sincerely,
    Ready to scream student

    Dear Body,
I really can't handle being depressed right now. I can't handle PMS right now. And if I randomly start crying while driving again because of some stupid song that comes on, I might actually get in an accident. Please just let me make it through this stressful time.

    Sincerely,
The girl randomly tearing up several times a day

    Dear Dad,

    Dear BF,
Thank you for being there for me the other night. For not judging me when I got drunk while you worked on your homework. For holding me close while I cried. Thank you for everything you do for me. I love you so much.

    Love,
    Your GF

P.S. I hope your ring shopping gave you some ideas... maybe even a purchase?
  • @Blue and White - I had such a good group of students last semester! They were motivated, engaged in class, and chose fun, interesting speech topics. This semester it's like pulling teeth to get them to do anything. Also your speech topics sound awesome, I wish my students would be more creative with their choices.

  • Thanks @bubbles053009, just a stressful week...
  • Dear Body,

Just get over whatever is making you sick.  It's been several weeks now.  Please and thank you.

    Dear BF,

I'm sorry I'm such a cranky pants right now.  I just can't shake this illness and I'm tired of it.  I'm also tired of my friends letting me down all the time.  I'm so sorry we haven't been, ahem, as physical as you'd like, but I'm working on it.  I love you all the way around the universe and back.

    Love,
    GF

    Dear Boss Man,

Thank you for giving me this opportunity and I hope the Big Boss Lady agrees with you.  This will be the most wonderful thing that has happened to me professionally so don't be surprised if I cry.  Thank you a million times over.

    Sincerely,
    Barista

Thanks love! I'm just worried about the pain because I don't have a very high pain tolerance and the location of the tattoo is going to be on the inside of my left wrist. I did send an email to the artist asking if he thinks it would be a good idea or not. Wanted to make sure so I can say to my BF, you're driving because I can't. lol
I usually say that I'm not a good one to talk to about pain, because I actually enjoy the feeling of getting tattooed, but I'll try to explain it to you. I HATE needles - I cry every time I get an IV or anything of the sort (although I did survive my flu shot the other day fairly unscathed. There was just a moment of panic when she walked in with the syringe.) However, tattooing is totally different. It feels more like a scratchy/burny pain, as opposed to a needle pain, if that makes sense. I have tattoos on both of my wrists (and there's lots of other ladies here with them too, so they can chime in), and my MOM got her first tattoo on her wrist - so what I'm trying to say is, if my mom did it, you can too :) My wrists were actually some of the least "painful" - there are WAY worse places you could pick! Stay strong!! (oh, and pics or it didn't happen.)
