To Boutonniere or Not??

We are getting married barefoot on the beach in Mexico. Deciding whether we will need boutt's or not?? Groomsmen are wearing pants rolled up with a white shirt, no Jackets. I'm thinking my fiance could wear one as he will be wearing a vest? Does it look bad without them? Any comments/ideas?

  • #1, Please don't have grown men roll up their pants. You won't want hairy legs in your pictures for all of posterity.

Bouts are not a requirement, and it seems best to skip them in your situation unless your FI really wants to wear one.
  • Bouts look horrible pinned to just shirts because shirts do not have a specific place on them for a bout and it will just pull the shirt in a weird, not so nice way.  So I vote to just skip them.

I also agree with itzMS about the rolled up pants.  I would say for the ceremony and some pictures have them wear their pants normally.

I don't really agree with this. If the guys want to roll up their pants and the OP doesn't care, then what does it matter?

As far as bouts go, it's totally up to your guy. They're not necessary, but it might look nice on his vest. I wouldn't have the GMs wear them.

  • I just think it's a tacky look for a wedding.

Have them wear shorts or man-pris if that's the look you're going for.

Pants are long for a reason.

  • our GM are wearing full suits, and we're not doing bouts.  FI doesn't like them, especially since we purchased suits for all of the GM, and he doens't want them to have to immediately stick holes in the brand new jackets.  we decided to do pocket squares instead.

bouts aren't a necessity...and it sounds like your situation isn't ideal for bouts.  i'd skip them and save some money!

  • you could also do an alternative to flower bouts, we had a lady on etsy make these fantastic snowflake (look like ice, not sparkly) bouts for my FI and his GM to wear at our winter wedding.

Ditto.  I just googled for images of this, and they just looked ridiculous.

OP - If you still opt for this, I think this is one of those things you're going to look back years from now and wonder what the hell you were thinking.
  • Another vote for no bouts if they are not wearing jackets. It's the reason we didn't give our ring bearer a bout.

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I agree that if the men are not wearing jackets/vests the bouts will just be strange.  If your FI wants one then fine.  Also if you really like the pants rolled up (and the GM's don't mind) then go for it.
