Bridesmaid Dress Ordering- What would you do?

Hello!

I have a small bridal party of 2 girls who mean the world to me. We went shopping this summer and 1 of them put in her measurements to get the dress and paid the deposit. The other wanted to wait, and was given a deadline of the end of this month by the store. As of today, I'm still waiting on the 1 girl's measurements before the whole order can be sent and I'm getting anxious. Which might seem unreasonable but there's why:

The girl who gave her order and paid her deposit almost 3 months ago works crazy hours in the medical field and attends grad school. She will need padding in the timeline to be able to work around her schedule to be able to go to her fittings, etc (I knew this before of course. This is why we went dress shopping in the summer was so it wouldn't be an issue). The one who has not ordered does not live in the state, but I am fine with her taking the dress back with her to have altered where she lives.

I'm debating if I should have the store call in the order for the 1 dress now, so that the one that lives here, has the crazier schedule, and has already paid can at least have hers in process. I know there's the whole dye-lot thing, but the color of the dresses is such that a slight difference will not be noticeable at all. I just feel bad that my one bridesmaid has to wait, when she did everything she was supposed to, and now she might be put needlessly in crunch mode.

What would you do?

  • The dye-lot thing is really a thing of the past. Computer do all the color matching now so it doesn't matter where and when the dresses are ordered provided it's the same company.

If your BM is out of town, could she just order the dress from a local store to her? Something like Alfred Angelo or Davids Bridal can be bought at any store.

I wouldn't worry about the dye lots, but I would order the dress for the first girl and check in with the other bridesmaid. Perhaps there's something going on that she's embarrassed to bring up, like money problems or trying to lose weight and being stuck between sizes.

If you only have two girls, you could consider ordering the same dress in a different color, or another dress from the same or similar designer.
