As much as it helped pass the time yesterday, I'm not too sad that it was closed. How much time have we wasted already giving advice that isn't even graciously received, let alone considered? I'm not doing it anymore.

Way way too much time. At the same time, you never know when you're giving the advice if it will be taken or not. A lot of us around here needed to hear that advice, so we're probably better off to keep giving it, and the crazies will flit off to WB.

so, what's everyone got planned (exciting plans!) for the next month or so?

I'll start!

this weekend we are having All Nations' Day at our church, kind of like celebrate-your-culture day.  that's why we made about 20 dozen tamales last weekend and froze them!  we're having a tasting lunch on Sunday and then a fun service.

next week we are taking H's little cousins to trick or treat.  H proposed during Halloween in 2010, and we actually were out trick or treating with these kiddos when he popped the question!  they still remember (which is amazing, considering they were 3 and 5 at the time!).  it is supposed to get pretty cold (like maybe light snow!), so we'll have to bundle up.

Nov. 1 is the beginning of the holiday season in our house!  I'm allowed to start playing my Pandora Christmas stations out loud (psh, I've already broken that rule!)...  can't wait!

Nov. 8 we're going to see White Christmas on the stage.  I am beyond excited for this.  I have watched this movie every year, know practically all the lines and quote them...  we might get kicked out of the theater for me singing along to the songs!

the next week is my mom's birthday, and we've already got her gift ready (WHEW!).  we've also got a Fall Harvest party for young marrieds and young parents from our church.

this is the first year since we've been married that we're staying in town for Thanksgiving (too expensive, trying to pay off student loans) so H's family from NM (his mom, step-dad, three brothers, aunt/uncle + 2 kids, aunt/uncle + 3 kids) are coming here this year.  H's family doesn't do holidays like I do (obvs I really build it up and milk it!), so I'm so excited that I'll be home for Thanksgiving this year.  I plan on watching the Macy's Day parade while I get ready and cook...  we're having lunch with my family (grandma, parents, great-aunt, second cousin, brother) and then dinner with H's family (so, probably 75-100 people)...  and then we're putting his lazy brothers to work putting up Christmas lights at our house the next day.  it's going to happen!

I've got a lot to look forward to!  what about the rest of you?

On Friday, I'm flying to Boston to give a presentation and meet with a collaborator that I've been working with for awhile.  Thennnn, I'm meeting up with @csousa1 and we're heading to @BriSox81's pad with @swazzle @LivLeighton and @buddysmom80 and we're going to drink and fiesta all weekend.

DH and I are celebrating our 3 year anniversary (holy shit, we've been married for 3 years) in between trips because he's heading to FL for a week, then I'm on the west coast, then he's heading to the south of France for 2 weeks after I get back.

Mid-November, I'm heading to a conference where I'm giving a platform presentation and I'm going to get to meet @motolyn and @flygirlmeg!

@Swazzle - I am very excited!!  lots of fun plans!  we always host a NYE party at our place for the young adults and young marrieds.  last year I made chili, and I'm already planning this year's menu.  we don't host alcohol, so the guys bring a bunch of bottles of sparkling grape juice and chug them at midnight.  I have a video of 2 years ago...  someone puked on my kitchen rug.  so now I make them chug in the back yard.  somehow we ended up watching honey badger videos last year.  who knows.

I was thinking we might do homemade pizzas this year... like personal sized?  I can make up the dough in advance and have a toppings bar.  as opposed to a topless bar, obvs.

Exciting plans over the next month:

Bean is going to be "Steve" from Mine Craft, so I'm making him a box mask. I'm going to use different colored construction paper to achieve the pixelated look. He has a Mine Craft sword and then we'll just use a green shirt and khakis to complete the look. I love love love taking him trick or treating.

Crossing fingers and hoping that we get to bring Katie home. Apparently the lady that runs the rescue has been out of town this week so she hasn't gotten back to us about when to pick her up from the vet. I just want to give that pup a big hug and a soft bed. I'm sure she's just working out all the details of her surgery and such.

At some point in November, all of our friends are having a chili cook off. I am going to eat ALL THE CHILI! And then poop my pants off.

THANKSGIVING! NOM NOM NOM My mom is taking Bean with her to my eldest brother's for Thanksgiving this year. He's been begging to go for years, but we've never been able to swing it. This time it's going to work out, but he doesn't know yet. He's going to pee his pants. Donald and I will probably spend Thanksgiving with friends since he'll have to work on Friday, meaning we can't drive to NC to spend it with his family

Other than that, just doctor's appointments and possibly a follow up scan. Wee one was a wiggle worm last week and the tech couldn't get good profile shots. The radiologist that reviewed the scan recommended a follow up scan just to make sure the nasal and jaw bones are developing normally. I'm not worried, I could see them just fine in the picture she gave us and the scan from 12 weeks showed them just fine.

@CocoBellaF - That's an awesome idea! You could have a few different kinds of cheese, a red sauce and a pesto, chopped veggies, some meats. Please for an invite? Way better than a topless bar, IMO.

Tomorrow I'm going to car-jack the cupcake truck for this weekend with @swazzle, @brisox81, @csousa, @sakalicious and @livleighton. And I just checked, they have midnight snack @swazzle!

Friday I'm going to try to leave work early so I can get my weekend started early.

The rest of October is Halloween, we still haven't even bought candy (booo).

November is Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving weekend we're having our pictures taken for our holiday cards, they will be cute and corny and I don't give a fuuuuuckkk.

I like those ideas!  the year before last was just snacky foods (cheese dip, wings, etc.) and then the chili last year.  I think pizzas could be a lot of fun, and not too messy...  I'm getting excited!  gotta plan the desserts, decorations, etc. too!  I never know how many people are going to show up, so that makes it hard sometimes...  but it's still fun.

@beanbot2002 - have you all started thinking of names??  I'm so excited for you!  H wants a baby soooooo bad (he even dreams about it).  we live through everyone else's babies right now!

@buddysmom80 - I am working on making photo Christmas cards right now.  I think we're just using a picture from our anniversary photos in September.  they are obviously warm weather pictures, but I think that'll be okay??  my mom wants to take cold-weather pictures of us and the pups, but I told her I wouldn't promise we'd use them for Christmas cards.  I'm pretty particular, and I don't know if you were around for my wedding planning, but my mom and I almost divorced each other for life after trying to plan it together.  she got a new camera (Amazon donated it after she was caught in one of the schools blown away by the tornado this May) and she really wants to use it.  she took photography classes in college, and really enjoyed it.  if nothing else, she can have some "cute" (her-style "cute") pictures of us, right??

Everyone's holiday plans sound like soooo much fun! It's way too far in the future for me to think about Christmas. As usual I'm sure we'll be celebrating with my family. I don't have any vacation accrued to go anywhere anyway.

 - Not technically next month but this weekend is @southernpeach89 's bachelorette party! We're going on a pub crawl Friday night, Saturday is shopping, beach, dinner and her bachelorette and then Sunday we go home. Someone suggested doing a ghost tour since we're going to be in historic Savannah and it'll be really close to Halloween but I'm not sure if we will or not yet. Yesterday southern and I put together the favors for the party. We made gift bags of monogrammed koozies in her wedding colors, wine with a custom label for the bachelorette party, nail polish, chapstick, and makeup wipes. I love how the koozies and the labels turned out...I'll have to AW some pictures later for everyone.

- Next week starting on Halloween Day we're having the exterior of our house painted. It'll help us get at least 2 or 3 years more out of the siding before we need to replace it. I'm excited because they're also pressure washing the house and deck, treating the deck, replacing some rotted parts on our front porch and doing a bunch of other stuff. I can't wait to see the results!

- The major thing in November is obviously the wedding. I'm taking the Friday before off so I can get my nails done and be available to help out before the RD and also visit with relatives from out of town. Wedding day starts super early because hair appointments for everyone start at 9 am.

- My mom has said she isn't hosting Thanksgiving this year because the wedding falls the weekend before. I'm sort of considering doing a small Thanksgiving celebration at my house depending on if there are relatives in town or not. A couple years ago I made a small turkey breast in the oven all on my own with all of the fixings so I feel pretty confident about doing it again. Plus it gives me an excuse to pull out my china that I bought from an antique store years ago.

So excited for the holiday season! Thing I'm looking forward to:

1) Brunch with Swazzle and Buddysmom80 Nov 2nd - I can't believe I'm finally meeting you guys and cannot wait to overdo it on mimosas.

2) Seeing my friend from Boston while she's in New York Nov. 10 & 11 - I rarely get to see his girl, but we have so much fun whenever we can get together. I anticipate lots of NYC bar-hopping with her and her friend and I am super excited for it.

3) Thanksgiving at BF's parents' house near the Finger Lakes. - As usual, I'll miss being with my family, but I'm excited to see his little niece and nephew since we haven't seen them since last Thanksgiving, and I love road trips in general. Not sure how long we'll be staying up there, but I'm going to try to find some fun outdoorsy activities we can do with the pup.

4) Trip to a casino with BF - Not sure when this is going to happen, but my little sister promised to pup-sit for a night so we can go to Mount Airy or Foxwoods or something. I want to learn to play craps, and will probably spend several hours watching BF play poker because I love the game (but lose my money far too quickly when I play).

5) Friends of our potentially moving to the neighborhood Dec. 1st - I still have some work to do on this one, but I'm confident they'll move here once they see how much they can get for their money, rental-wise.

6) Christmas Eve / CHRISTMAS - My favorite day(s) of the year.
