I miss all the fun :(

Re: I miss all the fun :(

  • @cocobellaF so we had settled on 2 different names for a girl. We hadn't really thought a lot about boy names because I was SO SURE this was a girl. Silly intuition. Anyhow, we've started to think about boy names but can't really decide on anything. El Senor is very "yeah, that's cool" about everything and I really need him to be more "YES! THAT IS OUR SON'S NAME!" IYKWIM. So far though, I really like Samuel.

  • meh!  I'm annoyed now...  I normally don't talk to MIL (H talks to her every few days), but on FB today I said something about we were excited they were coming for Thanksgiving this year.  her response?  if her sister can't get off work, she doesn't think they are coming because she always has Thanksgiving with her sister.  but her oldest son told her LAST YEAR at Thanksgiving we wouldn't be able to come this year and we wanted them to come see us.

I'm just going to vent!  please do not quote me, as I may delete some stuff later.

she never remembers to send H a birthday present or card, she's never sent him a Christmas gift or card.  every year we send things for Christmas, Mother's Day, birthdays, etc.  it just hurts my heart because H is so giving and it doesn't get returned.  I know she loves him, and I know that she is irresponsible and immature and insecure.  but, geez, if you have Thanksgiving EVERY YEAR with your sister, can't you spend ONE YEAR with your son?  :(  I know that he is hurt and disappointed.

back story:  his biological dad wanted to pay his mom to have an abortion.  she decided (at 18, his father was 20 years older than his mom) to go ahead and have the baby.  his bio-dad has never been that involved and H doesn't really know him.  H is a little sensitive about not being wanted, and I just wish that his mom would pay a little more attention to him...  you know, send a card at Christmas and birthday?  but this is just how she is:  flaky.  we both know it (and used to get in huge fights about it, but I've learned to keep my mouth shut and just love him when he's feeling vulnerable, instead of driving it in deeper).  I hope things work out that they can come, because it would make H so happy.
  • @beanbot2002 - that's cute!  we only have one boy name picked out, and two girl names.  sometimes, when Uz is day-dreaming about our future kids, he'll call them by their pre-picked names.  it's the cutest.

Wow everyone has a ton planned already!

This weekend is an annual Halloween party (lets be honest, it's a dress up drunk fest) that I am excited to attend.  @Cocobellaf there will be chugging!

All holidays are going to be spent in Texas this year since we took off so much time for the wedding in August.  Thanksgiving will be with our big group of friends here and there's an annual New Years party as well that we are looking forward to.  H has never been away from family for holidays so I know this will be hard for him.

I'm a giant slow poke and still trying to get out thank you cards :/  it will happen by end of this week.  We also got all our professional pics so I'm organizing them and will post a few.

  • @CocoBellaF I'm sorry H has to deal with all the BS from his Mom. My heart goes out to you both.

It sounds like everyone has awesome holiday plans. I'm pretty excited for the next few weeks/months. This weekend I'm FINALLY going dress shopping with my mom, sis, 2 BM's and FMIL. I'm irrationally optimistic though it could end up being a shit show due to family drama...either way I am bound and determined to have fun!

For Halloween I'll be passing out candy at the new house by myself, as Ed has class, but there seem to be a TON of kids on our street, so I'm really excited :)

Thanksgiving will be SO busy, FBIL, his W and their baby will be coming in for the week. I am sooo excited me meet our niece (and she's my God Daughter!). We will actually get to see my family, and both sides of FI's that week, it will be a bit of traveling but it should be so much fun! When we visit FMIL's family all the women folk will spend the day after make pierogi for christmas dinner, and I so excited to be in on this tradition!

Christmas Eve dinner is going to be at our house, with my parents, FI's Parents and maybe my sis and her H. I'll be serving pierogi, cream of wild mushroom soup, shrimp and some smoked fish, as FI makes an awesome smoked trout and smoked salmon...Should be yummy...

  • @CocoBellaF - my DH refers to out future children by their picked names too. He's adorable.

I am not doing anything for Thanksgiving this year. Well, that isn't exactly true. . . I'm writing my thesis. I told DH he needs to go home without me. He's been hesitant, but I really need the alone time to focus. :(

Christmas is still up in the air because we're relocating to DC between Christmas and NYE.

My life is insane at the moment.

@lmhollister - out of curiousity, did you put the attendees personal monograms on the koozies, or your sister's monogram?

Everyone has so much going on! My month basically looks like this:
    work
    run (training)
    get IUI
    run (1/2 marathon)
Attend DH's uncle's funeral at Arlington National Cemetary
host T'giving (on Saturday after T'giving because my sister has to work) - it will be my sister, BIL, niece, nephew and my parents

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • @cu97tiger Personal monograms. I've read WAY too much on E about how awfulterribad it is to force anything with your wedding date/married name monogram/etc. as a "gift" on your guests. My sister's first name monogram is on the wine bottles...but those are drinkable and tossable...not something we expect people to keep and use. I wasn't too worried about going that route in that particular situation.

  • I'm super duper extra looking forward to this weekend with my favorite girls.

In November, I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving (because it's my favorite holiday) even though I haven't fully decided on plans yet.

December is Christmas - yay! BF & I will go to Maine to spend actual Christmas with my family, and then we'll go to Connecticut to celebrate with his family the following weekend. I just realized that I'm going to have to miss my friend's wedding on Dec. 28th because we'll be in Conn. Dammit. Oh well, I guess.

    No NYE plans yet.

I can't believe that we're already discussing holiday plans. ACK.

  • Boo - you all sound like you have amazing weekend plans, and I'm super jealous!

Friday - my FI got a new job (today is his last day) so I'm taking Friday off as a joint "mental health" day.  We decided to do mini-wine bottles for our favors, so, to make sure that we are treating everyone to wine that is good, we are going to go to Binny's buy a bunch of the mini-bottles and determine which ones are best to serve.  That is going to be FUN.

Saturday - it was SUPPOSED to be my Halloween.  Stupid stupid Sunday.  Maybe I will start working on our invites or programs or something so I can at least get a layout set.

Sunday - baby shower to end all baby showers.  If this thing runs 5+ hours (like the bridal shower) I may just rip all my hair out.  Not to mention my Grandma is visiting, and she gets to 1) be intensely bored by this shower as well, and then 2) finally meet my FI for the first time.

I am definitely getting excited for holidays though - can't wait to spend time with the fam for Thanksgiving (my least favorite) and then for Christmas (my absolute favorite) - I think this year I get 3 Christmases, so it's going to be a lot of yummy eating!! :):)

  • Things to look forward to!

Doggy Costume parade this weekend.  SO many dogs so many costumes!
Meeting @flygirlmeg and sakalicious in like a little over two weeks!  Party on!
Thanksgiving cause I can't wait to eat and eat and eat, I love stuffing and gravy.
Danish Man's birthday, because he made mine so awesome I can't wait to repay the kindness.
  • @CocoBellaF, I love your proposal story! I always hoped BF might go a similar route, since Halloween is the holiday we enjoy the most together. Not up to me, though, lol.

I can't believe how many plans everybody is already forming for the holidays! That's pretty cool!

Over the next month or two:
-Bridesmaids dress shopping with my BFF and her BP. I'm just looking forward to the girl time and hanging out with everybody again, even if I don't care so much for the dress she's leaning toward.
-BF and I have a museum date coming up in the next few weeks, so I am looking forward to getting out and actually doing something fun, period!
-Huge Thanksgiving with my brother and his friend/roommate coming up! They can cook like nothing else, so it will be a wonderful celebration. His official "invitation" said that guests may only bring one significant other, though, so I guess I'll have to decide between BF and all my other boyfriends...?
-I just have to say...WINTER BREAK. A SOLID MONTH OF NO CLASSES. I'm excited.
-OK, not within the next month or so, but BF and I are going to see Bill Cosby perform one night in January. Sometimes when I am feeling down, BF will YouTube clips of his comedy or we'll listen to his records (I know, we're old for our age, lol), and that always makes me feel better, so I am really looking forward to it.
  • @Amapola14 - he really surprised me, because I wasn't expecting it until after Christmas/New Year's!  I was so shocked, all I could do was half-punch him in the arm and ask, "are you serious?? are you serious??  WHO KNEW??"  I really had no idea!  it was very fun.  if I could get pictures to upload, I'd post it!  :)
  • Well, now I want to hear your proposal story @CocoBellaF !!
  • @katieg520, it's on the first page of this thread, her first post there.

    Thank you!!!

And Coco, awwwww, during Halloween trick or treat! That's awesome!!!
  • thanks!  it was during Haunt the Zoo.  we took his little cousins to trick or treat there.  we got to the last exhibit (the butterfly garden that was decorated as a fairy garden) and he still hadn't done it, so he popped the question right there!  he was so cranky the whole night, and I didn't know why.  I even griped at him for ruining the night for the kids.  he also wouldn't hold my hand the whole night, but it was because he was holding the ring in his pocket!  he had got the ring from my parents the night before (it's a family heirloom ring) and decided he couldn't wait until the holidays to propose... so he did it the next night at Haunt the Zoo!

he also brought my favorite brownie from our old student union at the university to propose with.  :)
  • Um, zoo? Chocolate? Your H should teach classes on this stuff! That is so sweet and thoughtful and romantic!
  • he is a very thoughtful man (most of the time)!
  • @beanbot2002 - thanks for the love! seems to be in surplus for almost everyone today. . .
I am really excited to get out there :)
  • Next month is wedding-stuff month, apparently!

Starting dress shopping (and hopefully finishing it) on November 3rd. Our save-the-dates should be arriving soon, so then we'll mail those out. And we'll be meeting with several photographers and some DJs. AHHHHH. Our anniversary is also in November; since we're getting married next year on our anniversary, it'll be 1 year to the wedding.

I'm also super psyched because Thanksgiving is on the first day of Chanukah, and this year, my partner and I are doing Thanksgiving with my family. YAY!

  • Things I'm looking forward to over the next couple of months.

This weekend we are going register for gifts and order FI's wedding band.
Halloween, we are going to a friend's house and going trick-or-treat with her son and their neighborhood.

My daughter's step-mom/my BFF (yeah, you read that right. My ex-h's wife is my BFF, lol. She is also a BM in my wedding, lol) will be having her second child VERY SOON! Her due date is the second week of November, but she will most likely be induced next week or so. I am so excited because she is having a boy and we both have little girls right now, so we have been dying for a  little boy! LOL

Thanksgiving holidays - holla!!! A week off from school/work!!!

The end of high school football season - no more having to attend Friday night games until damn near midnight with the cheerleaders!

In November we are going to pick out and order the suits or whatever FI decides he wants his groomsmen to wear.

Black Friday shopping - I go to Victoria's Secret to get the free gift bag and that's about it.

Christmas holidays - two weeks off of school!! Yeahhh bitches!!!

  • I'm definitely looking forward to a whole lot in the next couple months!!

The rest of the October will consist of the Bachelorette party in Savannah with my closest friends and my two sisters! I'm sooo excited for that.

November will be an amazing month because first and foremost I'm marrying the man of my dreams and we will get to spend an amazing week together in St. Lucia. I will also get to meet a whole lot of new family and reconnect with family that I don't get to see too often.

December is Christmas and FI and I will have to think of something to get for all the families (his parents are divorced and remarried and has bros and sisters and grandparents on both sides that add up to a lot). We plan to take a cooking class together as our gift to one another.

I also plan to get my name changed like crazy so I can become another department store. FI and I both have last names that are very popular shopping stores so I'm going from one to the other.

I'm looking forward to a lot of my friends getting engaged in the next couple months. FI knows when all their BF's are proposing so there will at least be 4-5 engagements within the next three months of our close friends.
