Wedding Dresses

It seems like there have been a ton of posts recently about girls already finding/buying their wedding dresses.  I'm kind of curious as to who already has their's or if you are 99.9% sure what dress you are going to buy.  If you'd like to share details as well, that would be cool.

Re: Wedding Dresses

  • I went to David's and tried on about 5 dresses. There are 2 that I really like, but I'm going to wait until June or July to go back. I think about both dresses everyday so I know it's going to be a tough decision.
  • I have mine already! I love it, and can't wait to wear it! Strapless, ball gowns. the opposite of what I had ever though I would get!

I am going back to buy my dress in about 2 weeks (on my bday, since I live out of state). I LOVE it. Its exactly what I wanted but never thought I could pull off.

It was posted earlier today by LindseyLu (who has amazing taste IMO), but I want to share the picture again:

I can't wait to see pictures of everyone in their dresses!

Has anyone gotten the "it's to early to get your wedding dress" comment?  I got that from my aunt the other day.  My parents told her I fell in love with one and we're waiting to see if the store can get it and she was surprised I picked one so soon.

The dress I hope to get is nothing like what I originally wanted.  I was dead set on a lace gown.  I tried on about 20 dresses at four different places.  The one I fell in love with is this one:

I just need to find it in my size.  I can't believe how much I love it (and how low that dang pricetag is!!!!)
  • I made four different trips to bridal salons.  My plan was always to find a great dress, then buy it online (either new or second hand).

Trip 1: Lower end, local bridal salon
I went here just to get my feet wet.  Didn't like.  Consultant didn't suggest dresses.  She did help me into them, which I liked.  Went with three girl friends, which I didn't like.  Too many opinions, too many dresses in the dressing room that I didn't like.  Didn't narrow down silhouettes at all.

Trip 2: Nicer salon in Washington, DC
Went alone, on a week day. Consultant was awesome.  Tried on lots of different silhouettes, realized what I liked (which wasn't what I always thought I'd wear).  Gravitated towards Amsale and Modern Trousseau.

Trip 3: High end, couture salon in Washington, DC
Went alone, on a week day.  Consultant was awesome again.  Put me in a gown by a designer I never considered and I loved it.  Put me in a gown by a designer I've always adored (Monique Lhuillier) and I hated it.  Also let me try on a $10,000 Oscar de la Renta and I realized that it wasn't quite right for someone with my torso (long-ish).  Left convinced that the Rivini dress the consultant picked was "the one."

    Trip 4: Nicer salon i n Richmond

Went thinking that I could try on Jim Hjelm dresses (after Monique, that line has been my fav).  Oops!  They no longer carry the line.  Consultant was great, I was the only one in the salon.  Narrowed options down to an Amsale and a Romona Keveza (another designer I never even looked at before).

There were, essentially, 5-6 dresses on my list afte the 4th trip.  I still want to try on some Jim Hjelm dresses just to get them out of my head.

There's been a dress development, but I'm not going to really talk about it until the end of the month.  :)
  • Some people are shocked that I don't have a dress yet. I know for me it's personally too early to get a dress. I change my mind a lot so I want to wait until atleast a year out. I can't wait to see everybody in their dress!!

Noone has told me its too early, they're just shocked I found it so fast. Two different bridal salons, was the last dress I tried on (because I refused to try on more). My mom actually wants me to keep looking or calling around to find other places that have it and see if its less expensive.

  • I have mine already (well it'll be ordered soon and won't come in for awhile) and no one's told me it's too early.  I didn't plan on getting one so soon, but I found THE ONE on a shopping trip in February and couldn't pass it up because there was a 10% discount for buying on your first visit to that salon.  They said because my wedding is further away that they'd wait a couple months to order it (I think they'll be ordering it this month) in order to minimize hanging time/storage costs.

I can't post a picture right now because I'm in class and FI is right next to me, but its Style #C170 in the Allure Couture line if anyone feels like looking.  I'm obsessed with it!  I saw it in my Brides magazine the other day and gasped but had to hide it quick because FI was right there haha.

  • I have my dress, I've been looking at it from time to time for the last few months so I knew I needed to just buy it.  I showed it to my mom and a couple close friends and then ordered it, when it came in I loved it and was so happy I decided to order it.  Now it will sit in my mothers closet for a year until I take it to be altered :)

I have mine. I have some pictures of me in it, but they aren't that good. And the dress needs altered, it is too big.

I found mine on accident. I went  to try on dresses with my FMIL and FSIL. FSIL wanted to have a girls day, and I agreed. We don't get along very well, she is a bitch and mean to people. I can't stand her.... :S Anywho, it is a sample dress that was hardly tried on due to weird shoulder straps. We are going to alter them. I love it!! :D

Well, I tried to post them, but it just sat there and didn't do anything. I have pictures in my profile though. I will try again later.

  • I already have mine too! I hadn't planned on looking for a dress at all when I found it. I was actually picking up a BMs dress for my friends wedding and the lady who owned the store was retiring in a couple weeks and all the samples in the store were 50% off. So, I decided to try some on and fell in love. I actually ran down the road to another store to look and try on some dresses just to make sure I wouldn't find something I liked better since this was the first time I had even tried on dresses!  I am soooo glad I got this one because I haven't seen anything since then that I like better :)

  • I posted my dress story a while back. I went to a bridal salon and tried on a few. Found one I loved and couldn't stop thinking about. So I went bakc to the same place in January to try to "beat" my dress. Nothing could live up to it. So that was it. and becuase it was a few seasons old I ordered it in fear it would be discontinued. I got a call from the bridal salon 3 days later saying they ordered my dress and the designer had it in stock and it would be in by the end of January.

So needless to say I've had my dress since then. It's so much differnet when you try on "your" dress when it comes in! Its a great feeling!

Its strapless. very simple. modified sweetheart. ruching from the bust to the hip and has a bit of embellishment on the hip. Its perfect!

  • I haven't gotten mine nor have I went looking/trying on. I have looked online though. My aunt works for a bridal gown corporate office and is able to get me a dress through them. Here is one of the ones I like. I do change my mind all the time though.

  • I've gone shopping four times and I have a favorite. I'm going this Saturday to the salon I know I'm going to get my dress from and try on some more. If I'm 100% sure the one that is my current fave is the one I'm going to order it because the salon has a trunk show going on and I'll be able to get a discount on the dress. So, by Saturday I may have a dress! I've posted before, but this is my current fave, a Lazaro:

  • I have mine! I went to two shops. The first shop I found a dress that I absolutely loved and was convinced that this was it and I didn't need to look any further. Well, my grandmothers are paying for the dress so I decided to go to DB to look anyway. Well, we went there and I found a beautiful A-line dress that has rouching (sp?), beading, a sweetheart neckline, long train with lots of beading that won't be lost while bussled! And the kicker was this was a "tester" to see if they would duplicate it and they only made a few hundred. Well it didn't test well so they did not continue. It was made in my size, and my color (ivory). We bought it on the spot and it was on sale....it was beautiful. :-D

Because it was a tester there are no pics of it. Maybe I will take some next time I am home and post them online!
  • I don't  have mine yet.  I have two appointments in May and I am soooo ready to try some on!  I tried some on in October but wasn't really serious about it.  Now that I've looked at enough I am sooo ready!

I won a giftcard from one of the local bridal shops with a pretty hefty amount of money on it....but it expires at the end of June.  So even if I don't get my dress there I will most likely buy my veil or something.  I want to have my dress and veil ordered by the end of June.

  • Jul- that dress looks awesome :)

It's nice to see all the different styles and beautiful dresses!

  • Thanks Spiffy Smile

And I agree.  I love all the dresses and how different they all are.  Each girls personality shows through with the dress the pick.
  • I CAN'T WAIT TO GO SHOPPING!

So no, I don't have my dress yet.

For anyone who gets told they've gotten their dress too early, how's this story:  A girl I work with just settled on her date a few months ago, and she's had her dress since she got engaged over 2 years ago.

  • I have mine already the only person whose said anything about getting it so early (got it last june) was FMIL. I told her that I had gotten it and was all excited when I told her about and she freaked out and said "you're waiting to get marreid right" I tried to reassure that I just found a dress I really liked and didn't want it to get discountined. She's been this way about everything wedding related though.

  • I got mine last November. I went in thinking I wanted a mermaid, trumpet flare dress but didn't like how they looked on me. Fell in love with this dress in a magazine and knew it was mine when I put it on.

I couldn't figure out how to insert the picture. The detail is so much better in person and I love the back of it!!

  • I purchased my dress in January but it won't be in until next month...and I cannot WAIT to have it!!!  It was the first dress I tried on (I had been eyeing for quite some time) and I look at a pic of it every day!  It's an Oleg Cassini, and i'd post the pic, but FI is sitting next to me since we're watching Deadliest Catch together (could listen to Mike Rowe's voice all day!!).  I haven't gotten any "it's too early comments" but most people who know me know I'm a girl who RARELY changes her mind! :)  Can't wait to see everyone in their dresses!!

  • I've only been to 1 store and found a dress that I really like but I'm a little apprehensive to buy it because I've only been to the one store and I didn't have that "THE ONE" reaction.  I'm planning on going to one more store at least and then if I don't find something I absolutely love I plan to go back and try the leading contender back on and see how the reaction goes.

  • I have my dress!
My sister, who will likely be my MOH, lives very far from me and came for a visit in June 2010. It was probably the only time I would see her before my wedding and I wanted to go wedding dress shopping with her and just happened to fall in love with a dress.

<div>This EXACTLY!  I haven't even gone shopping yet.  I am so indecisive, I change my mind a lot, and I don't want to regret buying a dress too early and wishing I had waited. I know it's a like an unwritten rule that once you find your dress stop looking, but this wouldn't be easy for me.  I can't imagine buying my dress that I won't wear for over a year.  Something that I like now may not be something I'm in love with a year from now.  I am waiting as long as I can, although I am dying to go dress shopping.  I will probably go in late July, August, or November.  I can't go anytime in September, October, and part of November b/c that's football season and we go to every game.  The latest I will go is December, but that's cutting it too close for me.  </div>
