What are some seemingly innocent sayings that get the best of your temper?

- When someone asks if my husband is an ex-Marine. No, once a Marine always a Marine, there is no "ex" about it.

- When people ask how many pets I have and when I say 3 go "OMG that's insane! How do you cope with so many?"

- The phrase "My parents did X and I turned out fine" being used during talks about parenting styles.

We have 16 lines at work and not a day goes by without fail I hear this.. "Someone just called me from this number?" I have NO way of knowing who called who. It gets frustrating lol

also, "mise well"... no, "it's might as well."

Same with "should of" or "could of"... no... "could've" stands for "could HAVE"

Ew yeah, that bothers me too. Not that I've ever been pregnant or given birth but real talk, I'm kind of uptight and high-maintenance in real life, and I highly doubt I'll become a different person once I'm in the delivery room. :p

This reminds me of another Internet forums pet peeve, when people start a post with "Umm," and it just makes the rest of their post sound all snotty. Like "Umm, I shouldn't have to explain this to you, you're clearly an idiot." In fact, another forum I go to has gone so far as to make it a moddable offense to start a post that way! <a href="http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3150213" rel='nofollow'>http://forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/index.php?showtopic=3150213</a> (not that I agree with all their crazy rules and they do ban people at the drop of a hat for silly reasons, but that rule I definitely agree with.)

-When people find out I work in psych and they say, "Oh I guess it takes one to know one," or "Aren't you scared?!" as if only a psychiatric patient could lose it.

-When people look at my license and then go, "Oh, sorry - you look like you're 16!" Thanks. Can I have my wine now?

I can not stand when people make up words, and the words are used so often they make it to the Webster dictionary..... Problematic is the number one pet peeve word... irregardless is the other..... stop adding syllables to sound smart.

That's awesome. We had an "illegal" chinchilla in our last apt. She wasn't on the approved list of animals because chinchillas are "exotic" and "not normal". Rats, guinea pigs, bunnies, etc. all perfectly fine but not chinchillas. Our landlord didn't care though and told us to just cover her cage if maintenance ever came over, which we did anyway along with shut her door.

I hate when people tell me what I'm going to want in the delivery room period. I do not want an epidural, I do not want a c-section. Don't tell me that oh just you wait until it starts hurting and then you are going to scream for the epidural. You do not know this so get off your high horse and let me have the birth that I want.

I can't stand any of those "been there, done that," sayings that people throw out. For example, when I mentioned to my mom that FI and I would like to have 3 kids, she said "You'll change your mind after one, trust me." Sure, she may be right. But she could also be completely wrong. "How can you know? You don't have kids" is right there with that.

And I can't stand "Because I said so" as a reason for doing things. I think it's very important for kids to understand WHY what they're doing is wrong or WHY they're being told to do something. "Because I said so" is not a reason, it's just saying "It really doesn't make a difference why you're being told to do something, I just want you to do it. So do it."

"If you don't like it then don't look/listen, whatever" makes me so angry. Don't do whatever obnoxious thing you're doing in front of me and I won't bleeping be annoyed by it!!!!!! Also, using "I'm a paying customer" as a reason to be a d-bag drives me up a wall.

This, added with "the customer is always right" policies with retail. I'm sorry, but when animals are involved the customer is usually wrong, and I'm not going to kiss their ass if it means putting an animal in jeopardy.

The could've, should've..totally guilty. But I'm from Southern Lousiana and it's what I grew up with, that lazy southern drawl. We compress several words into one or two and drop our ER's.

But I promise not to use/do it on here. :)

Although I do get annoyed with people saying "Oh just wait, you'll change your mind" I don't get all in a tizzy about it as long as they are older than me and have faced that situation themselves. I see it as they have more experience in that matter than I and will ask them to explain why they think I will change my mind. Sometimes their reasons are ones I had never considered and it does make me reevaluate myself. Do I always change my mind, no, but I have a better understanding of issues I hadn't thought of.

"Fi & I are wanting to blah blah blah"

"Want to" works just fine doesn't it? The bolded part can't be correct, can it? I like to think I have my grammar skills down, but I see that phrase so often that I'm beginning to question myself. "Are wanting to" just sounds so grating!

When people treat me like I need to be told or reminded to do certain things, like lock the door on my way out. Hello! I've never NOT locked the door behind me, so why do you think I need to be told every time? I'm 29. I'm an adult, not a child. I've been locking doors behind me since before I can remember. I don't need to be reminded every time I leave the house! (note: this comes from FMIL whom I'm temporarily staying with until I move into my apt. this summer, which makes things all the more interesting b/c I have to keep quiet and keep the peace - grrrr)

When the issue of having kids comes up and I tell people we only want 2-3 kids and then they tell me we'd better hurry up cause time is tickin! Yes, I know. Do you have to remind me that we're not married yet? I know how old I am. Sheesh. I'm almost 30, which is still quite young enough to have a few kids, people! Yes it's true that we shouldn't wait too long - I know this so stop telling me. But we're not going to rush into marriage just so we can start popping out children.
