My dad offered to pay for the reception and the ceremony (which not only was very generous, but took a load off of my mind!), which is lovely, but meant I had to run all the places FI and I visited by him before booking (understandable, because he's paying for it). So on the top three places we liked, I asked if they could "reserve" our date for a week til I could call them and let them know if we'd like to book it or not. every place said yes.
I called my favorite place today, the one that my dad generously agreed to pay for (even though it wasn't the cheapest!) and they BOOKED OUT FROM UNDER ME. Which I know, is their perogative, they are a business, but it makes me upset.
Just, blargh.

Change your date.

Yeah, can you pick a different date? We picked our wedding date based on when the venue we wanted was available.
I agree with Tide - change your date!
I know we've got time to keep looking, and I intend on doing that, it just upset me. Bah.

We also chose our date based on venue availability.
[QUOTE]I would totally change our date, but it's the only date our church is open and our reverend free...UGGGGH. .

The only date that month? What about the month before or month after?
I guess your flexibility just depends on how badly you wanted that venue. It sucks that they didn't at least call you before booking it, but if you didn't put down a deposit or anything, then it's their prerogative to book it to someone who is willing to.

Well, that does suck then. There is NO other date that would work?

Apparently they booked the day after we were there, which was 5 days before I called them (this morning)...so I wouldn't have even SHOWED my dad the venue if they had called. Oh well. Just annoying and I felt the need to vent.

If you're looking at SAT dates, what about the FRI or SUN of that weekend?

Sigh. FI is done with class here in a few minutes and he's going to call me, so we'll talk then. I don't know what our solution will be, but I'm sure we'll find one.

We're putting our deposit down on the 9th for our venue if the food tastes good. If not we are gonna have to keep looking, but the place is so affordable I can't pass it up if the food is yummy
And Thank you

threaten to call the better business bureau of america on them- my friend stephanie does it daily and it works EVERY FREAKIN TIME.
FI said basically we can move the date by a month or we can go with one of the other two, but that he would prefer to go with one of the other two (his favorite one, of course) so that's what we'll do. Dad and step-mom are going to go over the other two tonight and call me and let me know which one is acceptable.

Yeah, except in this case she doesn't have a claim against them. She didn't put down a deposit, so they didn't really do anything wrong in booking the date. It sucks that she was told that they would hold it, but without a contract, she's got nothing.
