I highly, highly recommend one of the smaller towns just outside Roch.  We're moving out of town at the end of the month, and we're quadrupling our living space, going from apartment to whole house with a garage, deck, and yard, and only increasing our rent by $200 a month. Plus there is a whole lot less gang activity in the smaller areas.

I have no issue with small dogs in general. But this dog was seriously the size of my fist! I mean, my guinea pigs are bigger than that dog was, and there's a reason I keep them in a cage. They'd be done for if they were running around the house or hanging out with labs.

Like how certain purebred dogs often suffer from horrible epilepsy, which could be prevented by breeding other dogs with the purebreds. I know that a lot of people want a purebred for various reasons or want to show them, and I don't think it's "wrong" or evil. It just makes me sad to see an animal who's always going to be extremely vulnerable to harm who was intentionally created to be that way. I don't think your grandma is a bad person at all! Dogs want to play, and it sucks when a dog can't even play with other dogs without getting something broken.

Breeding dogs like this is wrong - yes.  But by the time it comes to buying them its a little too late to do anything.  I bought my little guy from a pet store - not because I wanted to get a pet store dog - but because I went into the pet store for a totally different reason and felt the need to rescue him from it.  It was a horrible place.  Now I have found out that he has a luxating patella - which is a defect that is really common from puppy mill puppies.

I'm all about not keeping with the pure-breeds -especially because of those defects though.  I wish my baby hadn't been born in a puppy mill - but I'm glad that I found him!!!

I judge people who don't accept apologies because they'd rather continue to lord over someone who did something wrong. ;)

I have zero dog knowledge beyond "oh that dog is cute".  So I was really just curious.  I was thinking it was along the lines of health related things, why you would say that.  To be honest it shocks me that a purebred would have more health issues then a mix.  Obviously I'm not a pet owner.  Well except my fishy's.  Except one of them, my poor banana died last week.  My first fish funeral.  It was sad because he was my favorite.  (random thought of the day)

I'm sorry, but this is a total cop-out.  People breed dogs like this because there is a market from them.  Eliminate the market, and you eliminate the problem.

I have to respectfully disagree.  I think that fighting puppy mills at their source is the way to fix the problem - not taking it out on the dogs living in the store.  Now if there was a way to shut down the pet stores and transfer the dogs there to a shelter...I'd be all about it.  That's the way to eliminate the market though - not by ignoring the dogs in need at the store.

I gotca! I'm defininitely no expert, but I'm familiar with the purebred health issues. It's just like the old royal families who practiced inbreeding. When you narrow the genetic pool enough, issues start to happen.

I'm not saying I disagree with this, but a LOT of purebreds (more than not, I think) are pre-disposed to things like breathing problems, hip displaysia, etc.

Then people judge stupid made up "breeds" like labradoodles for not being "real."
