• On my best day in Salamanca, I stubbed my toe and a good bit of toenail came off.  I had janky toenails for the rest of my trip despite the lovely pedicure I gave myself (with my Zoya nail polish) before the trip.  Sigh.  Evil toenails and wonderful vacations.
• Last spring I had a pedicure my first day in Mexico and I walked back out to the pool and promptly stubbed my big toe on one of the legs of the pool chair and chipped a big piece out of the edge of that nail.  D'oh.

Ouch, and damn it!  What color??

Is there any way to keep my toenail from coming off?  I haven't been able ot get a good look at it, but it feels pretty bruised.

• J, you might be lucky and just get a bad bruise. Maybe a scab will form under the nail and eventually grow out. Is the nail lifted at all?

• Ugh.  Guys, help.  We just found out that H's parents are giving us a "wedding gift" (I say this because our wedding was over a year ago, but that's what they're saying it is).  It's an antique bed.  The bed has been in their family for 4 generations, and they're super excited about giving it to us.  But the problems?  We have nowhere to put it.  And it's a weird antique size between a twin and a full, so it would need a mattress and sheets specially made for it.  WTF?  How do we say "thanks but no thanks" to this "wedding gift"?

No, it's not.  It's from the toe slamming into the front of my boot on downhills (it never did that last year, wtf?), so it's more...jammed? than anything.

• Oh that's awkward, J.  I've got nothing, sorry.

• You might be OK with the toe, J. Especially if there's a visible bruise once you get the polish off.

The bed deal, I'd just tell the folks you can't use it but really appreciate their thoughtfulness.
image
• J, that is awkward. You can't exactly throw it away since it sounds like a family heirloom. Can you just tell them you have nowhere to put it?

I XPed this to PB too, but I'll ask you guys as well.

The family I nanny for is going away for 5 days in September and they've asked me to maybe dog sit, depending on what I want to charge. It would entail staying at their house for those 5 days, including sleeping over, but I could come and go during the day, as long as the dogs are let out 4 times a day and fed their meals. What would you guys charge for that?

• Oh man, J&K.  That's a rough one on the bed thing.  Do you LIKE the bed?  Could you use just the headboard with a standard full frame to minimize the cost of special mattress/sheets (if you had a place to put it.. LOL)?  If you don't even like it though could you tell them you appreciate the thought but you've already furnished all of your bedrooms and really don't have anywhere good to keep it "until you can put it to good use"?

We TRIED to tell them we had nowhere to put it.  The problem?  Our house is 4x the size of theirs, and even though we have stuff in every room already, they can't fathom how we can't find a place to put a FOURTH BED THAT NO ONE CAN USE BECAUSE THERE IS NO MATTRESS.

Hmmmm...how high  maintenance are the dogs?  How many are there?

• In Response to Re:Hello? Is there anybody out there?:
Ew, J, that almost makes me nauseous. I dropped a paint can full! on my toe once and it hurt so freakin' bad. I had one toenailless summer on that toe. It kind of hurt to not have it.nbsp;OK, this is weird but just wondering. When my mom had chemo, she lost all her fingernails! I'd never heard of that happening until it happened to her; have you? She said she didn't much care that it looked unattractive, but she said it really hurt to not have them. Due to so many nerve endings and such in the fingertips. Ouch! Posted by willywally5
My friend had breast cancer and she lost all her nails. Doc told her it was a side effect from chemo. They grew right back though.

I ha ve that one!  I haven't used it yet.  It's not much of my style, but I should give it a try when I'm able to get my current polish off.

• Chemo can do all sorts of jacked up ish to the body.

I like Loopy's idea about just using the headrest of the bed with a normal mattress.  Unless you love the bed, I would not have a custom mattress and sheets made for a bedframe you don't need.
• I didn't think it was my style either, but on my toes it's less orange than it looks in the bottle.
• Oh, that's promising!  I'll definitely give it a try then.  I got it with the minis set, and it's the only reason I have it.  I never would have bought it on its own.

• J ugh on the bed. I can only imagine how spendy a custom mattress for it would be. Is it a 3/4 size mattress? Because that sounds about right by the description you gave. You can get an OK set of those for about $400 to $500. But they'd be awful for more than one person to use at a time. Sheets will run about $100, too.

Loop's idea about just using the headboard or something is good if it's feasible.

• Angel - I answered you on PB.

Yes, I think that must what it is.  We have a twin bed in the second guest room, and the headboard might work for that?  I don't know.  We haven't even seen it.

• Is that the one that came in the three pack beach colors, or something like that?  I haven't painted my toes since my nail fell off because I don't want to chance getting something else on the bad one.

• J, 2 dogs, and they're high maintenance as far as the amount of attention they like, but they're not actually difficult to care for. They don't bother me too much during the day while I'm nannying.

• Hmm, I might have to test run it on my hands.

• I haven't worn Myrta yet either because I don't really like orange. Maybe I'll try it out on my toes.

• Yup, it was my least favorite color (just on first impression) from the six-pack I got, but it turns out that I really like it and am now having to force myself to try the other colors.  Right now, my toes are a sort of apple green, which is probably too young a look for me.
• Hmmm, Angel.  $25 a day?  30?  I suck at this game.

It would cost them $60 to board both dogs and I'm pretty sure there is no one else that could come and do the overnights, besides me. So it's likely between me and just boarding them at the vet. Maybe I should ask what she was thinking as far as price and go from there.
