Re: HELLLLLOOOOOOOOOO!

  • I think the only time I made couscous I somehow fucked it up. It was disgusting, and mushy. I had such high hopes, but never tried it again after that.

[QUOTE]Omg, I love couscous. I could probably live without bread, which is odd since I do love sandwiches. And grilled cheeses... Right now I have NO urge to get up off the couch and haul my ass to hot yoga. I may just spend the whole hour laying in corspe pose.

Wow! big change indeed! I thought you loved what you do?
  • Man, sometimes I wish I would man up and go back to school. I just don't want to give up the $$$ I make. Plus med school with a new born (hopefully) would be insane. So instead I will man up and go to hot yoga...

And yes, I used 'man' three times in that little spurt...sigh.

I do. But I know I can do MORE. And I'd be eventually going back to grad school either way. I was planning on an MSW, but now I think I'd like to do children's advocacy law or family law. I've always wanted to be a lawyer, but I just kind of kept deciding not to. And now I think I'm going to decide TO.

I want to go back to school but I really dont know what for and we couldnt afford it.
  • J, take the plunge! Seriously, what do you have to lose? If you decide that it's not your thing, you can always stop going and at least then you'll know you've tried. I think it's cool that you want to do more for people beyond what you're doing now (which is awesome).

[QUOTE]I'm with you there, number. I would love to go back to school but all I see is dollar signs. Plus I still have no clue what I want to be when I grow up and I don't want to end up with another unused degree. JK didn't you say your mom has been not too subtle about her desire for you to be a lawyer?

I feel this way right now.
  • Koda, yes I did say that. She's always thought I'd be a great lawyer.

I would just caution that if you (as in J) aren't getting into it after the first semester or so, I wouldn't keep going by hoping you will start liking it. While 2L gets much better as far as being comfortable, it still is similar shiit and it won't make one like school better. But I am excited for you, J!

I made that mistake the first time around (gra dschool, not law school). I considered quitting after my first semester, and decided to stick it out. Then I considered it after the second semester, and got deep into summer classes before I qithdrew. I wish I would have stopped after the first semester. But that whole program was a freaking disaster.

Yikes, yeah so you know. I think like 3 or 4 people dropped from our program after the first 2 semesters, so it isn't uncommon. I think people get an idea of what law school is and it turns out to be completely different. Not that you do, but I think that is part of why people drop out early.

  • I'm not sure what people expect law school (or any grad school) to be like besides hard, tons of work, and learning a lot.

  • I think people sometimes imagine it to be more 'exciting' in class than maybe it really is. There is a LOT of dry subject matter but it is just shiit you have to know, KWIM?
    image
  • Yeah, they're going to throw you into the courtroom on day 1. *eyeroll*

it's ok, those people probably shouldn't be in law anyway.

  • That's exciting, J&K. If I went back to school, it would be for something as equally useless as my current degree, like ancient Greekk culture or anthropology. Apparently I'm only interested in the majors that are the hardest possible to get a job off of.

But I already know what I want to be when I grow up. It's just a bitch getting there.
  • Haha, exactly J. I actually got to witness a good & experienced lawyer (the attorney I'm working under) vs a newb in court yesterday. It was painful.
    image
  • J that's amazing!

I didn't know you had law school aspirations. That's pretty darn groovy. I'll bet you'd rock at it.

I feel like this too. I have a couple of college diplomas and I have taken a few university courses and I feel like I should go back to school and get a degree because I feel like I cut myself short by just going to college. I had great grades in HS so it's not like I couldn't have gone to unversity I just chose not too. Even if I did go back to school what I really want to do doesn't require a degree but I still feel like I should.

I'll just ditto everything that MuSu said. I think it's easy to figure out whether law school is for you or if it's not after about 1 semester.

Edit: And J, if you have any questions, I'm happy to answer, even though my law school experience isn't typical.

I think you should! What it is that you want to do? A degree almost always helps, IMO. Except when you have a hard time getting hired because you have too much education or experience and they don't want to pay what they'd need to because of it--would it be one of those situations?

Thanks SmashAsh! I've been bugging the bejezus out of MuSu because she's close to me geographically, so I bet she also appreciates your offer to help ;)

And thanks for the support everyone, sorry I P&Red, I got a nasty headache.

What I would like to do is be a freelance graphic designer. I am self employed right now and really enjoy it so I can't see myself ever working for someone else again unless I am forced to because the industry tanks or something like that. I don't think it would be an isssue that I would be over educated. The only thing is the money. I was working towards a communications degree but it is expensive and I want to take another program to get more education/experience in graphic design. While I'd love to take it all it just comes down to the money and if it is worth it in the end. Sometimes being an adult sucks.
