Another Christmas post...

Whatever, I do what I want.

What are awesome white elephant gifts?  Ben's family does a white elephant gift exchange every year and the gifts can get pretty raunchy.  Last year was the first Christmas I'd spent with them and gifts ranged from maxi pad slippers to a dead fish (yes, an actual dead fish).  I want to bring something seriously ridiculous.

    One of his sisters brought a photo of me she'd taken at a Twins game at the last WE exchange.  She'd blown it up and framed it - I was drinking two beers at once.  That one was the "crowd favorite."  I don't have any silly pictures of her though.  Boo.

    Get a box of tampons, dip them in red kool-aid, and set them out to dry.  Once their dry, put them back in the box and tape it up.

    I think outdated calendars are fantastic.  There are always some floating around at my work's "last annual Christmas party" and they are always of something really strange.

    Cran - I think everyone who has one of these parties plays by different rules.  In Ben's family, you just bring a really stupid gift and then we roll dice to determine who gets to pick a gift first.  The first person opens the gift, decides if they want to keep it or let the next person roll.  The next roller can either steal a gift (one gift can only be stolen three times) or pick a new gift, til the last person opens their gift.

    This sounds fun.  It's similar to that Office episode, and I'd never heard of it before.  I didn't know it was so widespread.

    I went to one where some one filled an empty vodka bottle with water. Every one was all, "whhaaa? this is a sweet gift, not a white elphant gift!"

    And then the truth came out. Such a sad truth.

    The last one I participated in I got a little clear glass turtle votive holder that everyone thought was hideous. It's still on my dresser, holding my rings. I loved it!

    M&M that is fantastic.

    Cran - my uncle was "Michael Scott" one year for a gift exchange game.  It wasn't a white elephant gift - you were supposed to buy a 25 dollar fun, nice gift, and then we'd play a game where we fought over the gifts.  My sister opened an iPod.  We were like... wha?  iPods are 25 dollars?

    We did a $10 gift exchange at work one year (ages ago).  People got Blockbuster gift cards, scratch off lottery tickets, candy, etc.  Evidently our manager thought it was a WE and he brought a yo-yo that lit up.  It didn't work very well.  A CW got it and said "Who would bring such a thing?!"  The manager (who was mostly bald) turned red all the way to the top of his head.  The rest of us barely held it together.

    One of my cousins buys stuff at auctions and resells it (kinda like Auction Kings on History channel). He took care of all 60 of us at last year's White elephant. One cousin got a german polka record, an aunt got a coffee table that's base was a ships anchor, I got a random bird house, another got these stilt things, etc. etc.

    We also have a set of cousins in the family that get each other a fruit cake for christmas every year - but its always the same one - still in the box and very disgusting

    'Spray on Hair' was a hit with our family. Also, anything from the 'As seen on TV' store. We had a giant Nutcracker that showed up for several Christmases in a row. Now it's MIA, or at least I think it is.

    We iced my brother at our sibling WE cause we're mature like that. We put it in a cylinder poster holder thing. Another brother brought a Shake Weight and that was a big hit.
