In Response to Re: I have a shoe problem.. : I am not at all trying to be mean or judgey- but did you really offer to "provide shoes" and then buy them $2 flip flops from ON? Is this part of your bridal gift to them? Again- if they were aware of this- it's probably nothing but were they thinking you were buying them actual shoes?
    Posted by Starmusica
It wasn't part of their gift. They're all getting their own gifts.  My original plan wasto buy them nicer strappy sandals but I couldn't find any in my price range for them. Then someone suggested ON flip flips and I figurd that would still work, which is why I went with them.
Flip flops should never be worn anywhere but the beach. I hate ON for making them popular for everyday wear. They are inappropriate for work too, in case anyone was wondering, unless you work on a beach or at a pool.  Chels, your BMS should already own an appropriate shoe, be it pink, black or silver. Just let them wear it. I can't believe you wanted them to wear flip flops with dresses that presumably cost more than $20.
    Posted by SarahPLiz
depends on the type! Technically the sandals I am wearing today are thong sandals but they are fancy! :-p Plastic flip flops are inappropriate for any place but the beach or pool... plus they are SO uncomfortable!

Personally- I asked my bridesmaids to all get the same shoes because they had short dresses and I thought it mattered. Every wedding I'd been to or in the bridesmaids matched. In retrospect? I should have just said- please wear either nude or gold, no hooker shoes allowed (don't ask) and left it at that.
I'm another one who has no idea what shoes her BMs wore.  My bridesmaids wore pewter grey dresses; I told them to wear whatever they wanted just as long as they all wore the same color.  And they could be either black or silver.  I have no clue what they wore. I did want my flower girls to wear specific shoes, lol.  Which I understand is kinda stupid.  They wore ivory dresses with tulle skirts, with wine colored sashes.  I told my SILs they they could pick whatever shoes, but I wanted them dyed wine to match the sash.  And they showed up at the wedding with un-dyed shoes.  But they were still adorable.  <strong>Shoes, in the big picture, are NBD :)</strong>

<div>This! Hell, my own shoes literally broke 30 seconds after the ceremony was over.  I was only pissed because I spent a lot of money on them.  We had to run to my parents house between the ceremony and reception and get another pair.  So in the ceremony/church pictures, I have teal shoes on.  In the reception pictures, I have red shoes on.  I don't really give a damn and it's something I look back and laugh about. </div>

  • Chelsea. Straight talk. You are having a formal catholic wedding, and you just went from plastic shoes to shoes that come in a bag. I think you should let the girls pick their own shoes.

I got a pair of those as  backup for my wedding, they are more uncomfortable than flip-flops.  They offer NO support and kind of cling to your foot.

I would stay away and stick to real shoes, especially if most of the girls already have a pair that will work.  I really doubt you will notice their shoes the day of the wedding, and I can almost guarantee your guests will not notice.
    imageimage
  • yeah probably best to just let them pick the shoes. buying shoes w/o them trying them on first is a hard thing to do in case it doesn't fit, horribly uncomfortable, etc.

okay, i'll let them just do their own shoes.

  • I'm late, but I'm picky about shoes so I wanted to weigh in.

A dress that length needs a heel.  You are making your girls look short and stumpy if you make them wear flats or (please no) flip flops.  Please let them wear whatever shoes they want, within a color scheme.  It's way more important for your bridesmaids to wear shoes they're comfortable in, and have a good time that day without worrying over their feet, than it is for them to look identical in photos.

They are more like fancy socks. I brought a similar pair to a wedding last weekend because of my foot injury (this was PRE walking boot when I stupidly continued to wear heels). They have NO support so they are basically like walking barefoot. They are not really intended for short dresses and are really not church appropriate...

Don't blame yourself. Blame Old Navy and their advocacy of over-casual footwear for formal occaisions. <div>
</div><div>And yes, those are flats, but they lack any form and structure. To me, that is the equivalent of wearing socks with the dress. If your BMs don't have an issue wearing heels, that's what I suggest. All legs look better with some sort of heel. </div>

I think it depends on the shoe, and to some degree how "shiny silver" it is.  Gold and silver are kind of trendy for shoes right now (although nude may be taking over, so maybe not as much as they used to be) - think of all those gladiator sandals.  Metallics are still pretty in.

I think the material and the design of a shoe can definitely affect how "prom-y" it looks.
