I think there was drama regarding this person and this particular post before, but she has posted the exact. same. post. on FIVE different boards. So, um, if anyone else feels that that is spamming, feel free to report her. Or just respond with the exact. same. response. on each of the posts. That would work too.

We are going to have a designated place outside the barn for them to get their pic taken for the guestbook, so I'm not sure I want to have to pay $1 to get a pic taken with us. I've also had the suggestion to do a tug of war or something else that would pit the two of us against each other. Do any of you have suggestions for Dollar Dance alternatives? Thank you for any ideas.

Basically, what is another way that we can get guests to give us more money?

We didn't have a dollar dance, but I did have one older gentleman give me $20 after he danced with me, so I guess I still had a dollar dance.

Jagore - I swear I read this exact. same. post a few weeks back as well....deja vu?? Ugh. if I can gather the energy later maybe I can reply about how rude it is to charge your guests at your party for the priviledge of having a photo taken with you. Because that makes the Dollar Dance more klassy in comparison.

I'm going to try to do a 'well-wishes' dance where people can write a note to the B&G as their 'fee' to dance. The more I think about it, the more I like it. I'm excited to see what people will write.

Is she really still posting this? I remember like 2 or 3 weeks ago she asked this like 7 times and then got p!ssed that people were just copy and pasting there responses from board to board ... I think at one point she outright said "I posting everywhere so I could hear from different people!".

I think I can honestly say I hate this girl, lol.

She should just do what Miss Manners advises in this situation -- put a hat upside down on the floor with a sign that says "Donations." Why beat around the bush if that's all that you're looking for? Bonus: it lets everyone see what you're really like. Win-win for everyone!

My photog/BM and I actually had a heated conversation about this the other day in which I managed to hurt her feelings. She'd grown up with them and felt like I was basically calling her friends trash for doing them. I'd never heard of them before TK, and I too make the stripper association plus just think it's weird and rude to expect guests to give you money at your wedding even if it's optional. I still don't think that there's an objectively good argument for why to do them, but she made me realize that for some people it really is tradition just like I'm sure in other cultures registering for gifts is pretty horrible, but here it's totally fine.

That said, I judge the hell out of anyone who wants to add one if it's not traditional for that area, and I judge this person for just taking the money part and ditching the tradition.

I'm all for the wish dance. My thing about it is, if the dance is really heavily traditional in your area, some people will have factored that money into your wedding gift. (The dance originated when guests would just walk to the village square for the wedding, and would give no other gift.) So it's rude to ask for money, but it's also rude to refuse a gift...

That's why I like the wish dance. People can still choose to give money, but they don't have to feel obligated to do so, or left out if they choose not to. That's what we were going to do before we nixed the dance floor.

This was a big part of my friend's argument, that people will have bought you a slightly cheaper gift expecting to pass over a few dollars during the dance. I still think it's weird, but I'm trying to be more understanding of people who live in areas where it's common.
