[QUOTE]We are thinking we will "stop preventing" 1-2 years after the wedding...but not try super hard.....I think a lot of us will end up being fairly close to each other, pregnancy wise!! I know it takes at least a few months for the body to adjust after stopping hormonal BC (which I have been on for...OMG almost 10 years now. that's kind of disgusting and makes me feel old!). Now I am nervous about my body freaking out when I take the hormones away from it. sigh. My body reacts really violently to changes/weird things (example: the first time I took codeine, I vomited for 7 hours straight) and one time, when I accidentally skipped two of my BC pills, I got so thrown out of whack that I then had my period for 10 days.  Were any of you on hormonal BC pills for a long time, and then decided to quit??

My body freaks out, too. I can't take allergy medication because I throw up.

I went off BC for a while when I broke up with an ex a few years ago because there was no reason to be on BC. My body was totally fine. In fact, I lost some weight, weirdly? I have been taking BC since I was 15, so like 14 years (that's nuts).

  • bells - Gotcha... I thought maybe you guys had a huge blowout or something.  Mothers of boys tend to be much clingier, I think....

bridetobe - I was hoping going off of BC would magically melt 20 lbs off of my body.. are you now telling me this is unrealistic?  ;)

On the contrary! I seriously lost about 5 lbs! But then of course . . . there's pregnancy. Which, you know, causes you to gain weight. But that's at least good weight :)

good to hear I might actually get skinnier when I go off BC, instead of throwing up or having massively long periods, haha!

bells seriously your FMIL sounds like a gem. what a PITA!( i feel so cool using that phrase now that I know what it means)

My FMIL finally admitted to fiance last week that she had been delusional and that it actually DOES make sense for us to be buying a house since we are 1) almost 30 2) going to have kids soon and 3) both fiance and I have good jobs that we are settled into. She basically had said before she was afraid we would buy something horrible and that it was just a "really good time to rent right now" (mostly because that is what my FSIL is doing right now - renting.)

EVERYTHING has to be compared to FSIL - she is the doll of fiance's family. Even everything with our wedding is that way.

"FSIL used big vases that everything hated and threw away as her wedding favor. They were just lovely. Why don't the two of you have big vases are your favors?"
"FSIL had pasta at her reception. Why don't the two of you have pasta?"

UGH. vent over. didn't mean for that to all come out.
  • I stopped BCP in Septemberish. We're using natural family planning to prevent pregnancy.

I lost 12-13 lbs without doing anything different. Periods/cramps are a little worse but not unbearably so.

I'm also 6'1 so 12-13 lbs for me is probably 7-8 lbs to a normal sized person.

  • My daughter's birthday is today and I got drenched going to the store for all the stuff for her poker party that she wants to have tonight, but it was worth it.

I'm sitting here pissed as hell at my ex's family, though.  The mail came and not even a card from his parents or grandparents.  Nada, ziltch.  He hasn't seen them in over 2 years, but his parents and grandparents were still sort of involved until last year.  They sent Christmas cards and a GC to each kid this past year, but never arranged to see them and didn't respond to my emails.  The year before, they had them all come over to their house to play with their cousins (sans ex).  I was shocked when he said he wasn't going to see the kids anymore, but I'm even more shocked now because I really never saw this coming from his parents.

I'm anticipating tears at some point today.  Either he'll actually call or text her for her birthday and she'll cry because she misses him or he won't do anything and she'll cry because she misses him.  They're better off without having to see him and his bitch of a wife (who left bruises on them and verbally abused them), but his parents have always been sweet and I know it was hard on all of them when Christmas came and went and they never got to see them.

I'm so thankful that my FI has been so wonderful to them and has filled that void and maybe all the festivities of the day and night will stave off any tears.

  • Awwww, I'm sad I missed this thread. Work was strangely busy. Yes, I am a July 1st lady. I love mint Oreos too and right now we are just trying to get flower girl dresses... I had a whim to add FI's little cousins as flower girls and it's a little difficult to find something that will fit them, ugh.
