Mehg- when I was little, my parents made sure we looked nice when we were traveling. We didn't wear dresses and ties but they wouldn't have let us wear sweats.

I don't get hanging out in airports either. It's not comfortable, and it's a lot more expensive than eating or drinking at a normal restaurant beforehand. Unless you get to hang out in the first class lounge, but even then, most of them aren't that great anymore.
In Response to Re:I am feeling judgemental:
In Response to Re:I am feeling judgemental:Nebb, I realized I didn't answer your question about where this gropage is occurring. The worst is on trains or buses during rush hour, but some dude grabbed me yesterday when we were crossing on the sidewalk. One minute he was a fair distance from me, and the next his hand landed straight on my crotch. This definitely doesn't happen everyday, but it happens frequently enough that it's become a pattern.Posted by polichikDude I say this for your protection.nbsp; Get a car.nbsp; Posted by Dot Dash
You're totally right. I won't wear sweats on a plane, but I don't dress up for real either. Usually because I'm catching the red-eye or a really early morning flight. If my flight leaves at 6 am, I'm getting to the airport around 5 am, which means I'm leaving home around 4:30. No way in hell am I waking up an extra hour early to look nice just to fall back asleep on a plane.

My dad loves getting to the airport early. I think its because of how hard he works and how much he works. To him, it is the beginning of his vacation that he's waited a long time for. No one to bother him or no place to he has rush to and no clients.
Needless to say, we were a family that got to the airport super early.
I don't understand why anyone would wear complicated shoes to an airport in this day and age either. Or act like most airport security measures (none of them new -- they've all been in place for YEARS by now) are surprises. Like liquids in carry ons, laptops in bags, belt buckles, etc. Not only are these old measures, but there are signs EVERYWHERE in the security line, telling you exactly what to do. READ people.
AND they're announcing it overhead, Mica. In multiple languages.
Coming home from the Dominican, some guy got LIVID with security that they wouldn't let him bring his huge bottle of rum on the plane. They told him to drink it or toss it. He started passing it through the security line. haha
Have you ever run through an airport before? Like, to catch a flight? I always wear comfy shoes, lol. I am always surprised when women are wearing stiletto boots. I mean yeah, they're hot. But come the fuckon.
In Response to Re:I am feeling judgemental:
I think the buses/trains/bart are way better during rush hour for safety than other times of the day. There are tons of commuters on them at that time. For the most part, no one's trying to pick a fight or grope anyone in front of a bunch of witnesses with cell phones. I've seen some crazy shiit, mainly on BART. It was all during nonpeak commute times or on weekends. Posted by kodakitty
Any good BART stories?

Ha. Yes. It was daylight savings and we forgot to move the clocks forward so my mom and I were an hour behind. We noticed while sitting having a muffin before the tram and before security. I had to run while my mom walked because she was getting over pneumonia.

<div>Only once, actually. But that's mostly because I refuse to fly with connections. ;)</div><div> </div><div>(In case you haven't noticed, I'm kind of a flying snob.)</div>
I love airports. I still have this whimsical fantasy that flying is fun. I like watching all the people and the planes coming in and out. Since MIL became a flight attendant and she's told me some of her stories, I've started being even more patient than I was before when it comes to anything flying related. She's told me some of the things people have said to her and it's appalling. Anytime I fly, I always wear dresses or a skirt because it's more comfortable to me than pants, plus I look halfway decent.
I end up getting really stressed out before I fly. I think it is because I have to give up control and can't plan exactly how things are going to go. It has nothing to do with flying, mainly just with checking in/security. I can't help it. I blame LAX and its shitty long security lines. MSP usually is just fine but you never know.
I am usually in sweats or super comfy clothes. I don't giveafuck if people think it's lame I am in basically pajamas. Flying is uncomfortable.
How do people sleep on planes?? I can't, my head bobs and that's the end of it.
Yuck, you know what I judge? People who have stag and doe parties. I was invited to one this afternoon and I just looked at the event for it and theyve invited nearly 300 people - 300 people who are expected to pay to get in, pay for food and drink and pay to play games for the soul purpose of lining the pockets of the couple whos wedding they arent even being invited to. What a fucking gross and deplorable custom.

So my asthmatic husband and my smoker self ran a mile to get to our gate. For a flight that was delayed by 2 hours anyway.
Kate- I usually fly Sun Country, which is out of Humphrey (or Terminal 2 or whatever it's called now) so the lines are basically nonexistant. It's fantastic.
And get yourself one of those neck pillows! Target has them for like $10. Totally worth it.

Yep! I was so happy to be wearing my tennis shoes. It was the difference between getting home that night or missing the connection and not getting home until a day later, which half of my party did.
I usually wear a long tank/tee with a scarf and some leggings tucked into my loose black biker boots when I fly. That way I don't have to worry about trudging through the security line barefoot (barf) and I can wrap my scarf around me in case I get cold on the plane. I don't like to wear jackets on planes, I feel suffocated.

No effing way am I going! I wont even go to them if I am close friends with the person. I just decline but I dont say anything. Its pretty commonplace here to do them so most people just go and dont think much of it. Its just so freaking gross. I paid for my wedding without scamming all of my friends, so why cant they?! Its called a budget.
Is Stag and Doe the same thing as Jack and Jill parties? If so, the loud talker behind me on my flight to Vegas was having his own this sat night. Also, he spent 10-12K on his fiance's rings. Yes, he told people that. sigh.
Steph I always forget about Sun Country- work wouldn't let me use them for flying, but for personal flights I will start considering them more. It would be nice for me to have a less stressful airport experience.
I've never been a frequent BART rider. And I usually ride it in the middle of the day, not late at night, so not much happens on it. I have always lived and worked on the same side of the Bay so BART has only been for social visits.
I often travel in heels (not stilettos, more like heeled loafers or wedge sandals). I have had to run through the Atlanta and Dallas airports in the last year. It sucked. The next time I fly somewhere with a connection, I'm wearing flats. I try to avoid connections, but there's no direct flight between SF and Tampa.
The worst airport ever is the one in Phoenix. It has four separate terminals. I flew there to connect to John Wayne in Orange County once with my ex boyfriend (he routed the flights, motherfucker) and each terminal has different airlines. When you leave one terminal (by shuttle) you basically leave the airport. So you have to go through security AGAIN. It is the dumbest shiit ever and it pisses me off to even think about. On our way home a woman next to us had about a half hour to make her next flight and I'm pretty sure she didn't make it.
Yeah I think a stag and doe and a jack and jill are the same, a party people pay to get into where you profit from it. I have heard of jack and jills also being a co-ed shower, but its not the same as this atrocity.
Don't worry Steph, I'm kind of a flying snob too. A CW once got me bumped up to first class when she upgraded her seat on a flight we were taking to a conference, and it hasn't been the same since. If I'm on a Boeing 777 you best believe I'll drop an extra $200 for an upgrade. Those seats lay flat! And food & booze is free, too. Totally worth the price to me.
And ugh, Alameda. My exH is stationed there right now. If you guys see a short, squat version of Orlando Bloom running around beating up women who look like me, that's most likely him.
