Honest Opinion: Is this tacky?

Our wedding theme is vintage, old hollywood. Our colors are black and white with red and silver as accent colors. Instead of escort cards and an escort card table we will making a large display listing table assigments.

I plan to use picture frames as the place card holders as well as favors. I love antiques and I would like to spend the next year seeking out silver vintage/antique picture frames. I understand that not everyone appreciates vintage and antique items but I already have a beautiful collection of vintage frames. And I would love to give people a favor they can actually use instead of some useless tzotchke item. However, many people equate vintage and antique to used and second-hand.

My question: Is it tacky to offer up vintage/antique items as wedding favors?

I think that's really neat! For some of your guests, vintage/antique might turn out not to be to their tastes, and that's fine, but that certainly doesn't make it tacky. I would be thrilled to get a favor like that :^)

Honestly, I don't think it's tacky but some people may disagree. Try posting this on the favours board as well, you may bet more responses there for this being a favour.

I love vintage/antique things. I don't mind second-hand at all as long as they're in good shape.

I think it would be tacky if you were giving out YOUR old pictures frames as favours haha.

Any favor that you choose won't gel with some guests personal tastes/styles... so don't stress about it too much.

first of all i think weddings are tacky so i think people should embrace the tackyness

but in no way do i think of seccond hand or tacky when someone says antique or vintage. My fiance and I actully go antiquing and collect certain items.

For my wedding for the past year and the year to come (my engagement is 2 years) I have been and will be collecting vintage red glass vases.

go for it girl--and remember to go to yard sales because they can often be cheaper (and remember if you cand find enough silver ones there wil be plenty of gold and spray paint can be your best friend in terms of budget)

This is why I hate the word tacky. Is offering these as your favor in any way rude or offensive to your guests? Then who cares? If your guests don't like them, they won't take them, and then it's just more for your collection. As long as you're properly hosting your guests, the style of your wedding can be whatever you damn well choose.

I had to ask because I mentioned it to someone and she looked at me like I was insane and asked if I was trying to save money. I had to explain to her the value I see in antiques - the character.

You all have helped me feel better about the decision and I will not second guess myself anymore. AND, II'm going to limit my wedding talk with most of the people I know.

Probably for the best. A lot of people thought we were totally nuts with our wedding plans, but everyone really liked the way it came together. In particular, FIL made the most noise about how he didn't think it was going to work out, and now he can't stop talking about how great it was.

If you're really concerned, maybe you can add a little note to the frames talking about how much you love antiques and how you want to share that with your guests.

Not tacky. It goes with your theme, and your guests will notice that. Very creative

Although, I disagree with spray painting the frames. If I was a guest got one that was spray painted and it started flaking, then THAT wouldn't fly well with me. I'm all for saving money and stuff, but I wouldn't want your guests to remember your wedding as "the one with the favor that started falling apart".

i love it. we're doing books and vintage vases for our centerpeices. Theyre gorgeous. Dont spray paint them. leave them looking antique. thats part of the charm

I think it sounds good and since it's something you collect if not everyone takes theirs you won't mind being stuck with the leftovers.

I think it's a lovely idea, and wonderfully personal too! If i were a guest at your wedding, I'd be blown away at how cool the idea is, and that you'd spent so much time searching for and picking out each favor. (Of course, I love anything old...) Even more, it's something that can be used long after the reception. I'd prefer that to any useless tchotsky, no matter how cute. Limit who you discuss your planning with, and go for it! Very creative idea, I think it will work out great.

I don't think it's tacky at all! If people do think its tacky then forget them, anyway, because it is YOUR wedding! Don't forget that! You're giving them a gift and, just like any gift, they should appreciate the fact that it is a gift that you've spent your time and money on. Really, though, it sounds adorable. Good luck finding more frames!

Some people won't appreciate the character and great look of vintage items but those who do will love them! The problem with favors is that you can't please everyone so go with what you like and I don't think its tacky whatsoever!

Oh I love your idea!!
My F and are doing something like that, we are having a Michigan themed wedding and we searched for antique planting pots and flower vases to use as centerpieces and then to be given as favors. Our guests will have a variety of choices for a favor but so far people are very excited for the vases and planters!

I dont think its tacky at all! I think it show your personality which is what a wedding is all about. I think anyone who complains about the wedding favor is tacky! Your wedding sounds beautiful and really personal which is what makes a wedding wonderful! best of luck!

I love the idea! I think it's tacky for someone to say, "Are you trying to save money?" I love the idea of personalizing your gifts and if it saves you money too, that is fantastic.

I think that's a wonderful idea! Antiques are awesome, and a "used" picture frame isn't the same as, say, used shoes. I think they will complement your theme nicely, and each person's favor will be unique! Anyone who thinks about it will realize that you spent a lot of time picking out each one. I think it's fabulous!
