So I went to the SS office today to change my name. I brought my SS card, drivers license, passport, and our marriage certificate. Apparently, this was not enough. Since the marriage certificate I brought was given to us by our priest, and not by the state, I was told that I could not legally change my name unless I had another form of ID with me that showed that I had legally changed my name. WTF?
Ok. done venting. So here's my question - do I really need to go to the Daley Center to get a state-issued certificate? Can I request it just be mailed to me? Does it cost anything? TIA for your help!
