I decided to not get a tree. I decided to get some Hungarian embroidery as a tribute to my grandma. We're Hungarian (a lot of people ask me what ethnicity I am because they don't have any idea. That's it. haha) and her dying wish was that she could visit where her mother grew up. And she finally got to before she died. I know she bought some embroidery there, but I think my aunt has it. I'd rather get that, but if she can't find it, I want to have an idea. So which ones do you like best? I think I want it on my shoulder.
If you go with something about the size of the palm of your hand, I think number one is pretty. For something larger, I personally would prefer something more like number 3.
I like number one or four. They're all nice tho - it's a lovely idea, Narwhal

Well... I just found out that my aunt has a ton of stuff that my grandma bought while they were in Hungary. I have to think of an excuse on why I need to see it.
Hopefully I can find something off of that that I can bring into my artist. I'd much rather do that.
I think they are all beautiful but number 3 jumped out at me. if you can't find something in the things brought back from Hungary, you should use number 3!
Thanks for all the advice Cate. You know, I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I didn't have you here to give me your keen insight on such matters. Before you came on the board, I could be likened to a dried out sponge: just taking in every little thing that came close to my mind. Luckily, you came just in time to save me from my imbecility.

Dude, snark level off the charts. Don't know what I did to crawl under your skin, but it's getting old. You don't have to listen to me, but like everyone else here I'm going to post my opinion.
It sounds like you're super excited about getting a tattoo, which is great - it would just stink in 2 weeks if you come up with an idea to merge the tree and the embroidery or something and you already have it done differently. My thought was to just let the idea simmer for a bit to make sure it's exactly what you want forever.

I like #1 and #4 for the colors. I don't know what are the primary characteristics of Hungarian embroidery, though. I think #4 could be really pretty climbing up one shoulder.
The characteristics of hungarian embroidery is simplistic flowers that actually mimic real ones. The colors switch up depending on what region the embroidery comes from, but the ones I put up there are from Budapest, which is where my family is from.
I simplified (using handy dandy Paintbrush) the first one. I think I like this option better if I go with it.
I like your simplified one best. I just love the colors and the boldness of it.
Of course, you should think about it for a while before doing anything so permanent. Remember, you'll still have this tattoo when you're a wrinkled, crotchety 90-year-old lady.

I vote #3 or #5, though #3 has got the edge with me.

And I like this idea better than the tree. These are so pretty!
But since you've changed your mind, perhaps sit on the idea a few weeks before getting it? Just to make sure.
And I love 1 and 4... but let us see the family stuff too please!

Narwhal-- Just cross stitch a family tree. Done and done!
Oh, and I'm thinking you should sit and think about this for at least a year or two.
