Let's share ideas for food...

My name is Amanda. My fiance is a chef, we do catering, but we're trying to decide what to do about the food for our own wedding! It's kinda tricky because we'd love to do our own food, but that's too much trouble, out of the question. We have friends who would love to do it, but we want them to enjoy the party. We know restaurants who could help us out, but again don't want our friends to have to help and not enjoy the wedding. Anyone in the similar situation? I'm also trying to decide between having a dinner for the reception food, or just a lot of hor d'oeuvres, desserts, fruit, and smaller things of the like. Anyone thought about a non "dinner" idea, and just go for the simple things? I'm just getting planning....glad to chat with fellow brides.

I'm really excited about my menu (just finalized today for my October wedding)

I am having pre-ceremony cheese, breads, fruits etc and then passed sparkling apple cider and sparkling water.

Then we are having a cocktail hour with some passed hors d'oeuvres

Then for dinner, we are doing stations with the caterers cooking/preparing things right there and servers with trays passing.

We are doing fun things like sliders, milkshakes, pad thai in chinese takeout boxes, sushi in individual bento boxes, dumplings in individual bamboo steamers, risotto in mini mason jars,  etc etc. lots more good stuff... including martini bar, etc.

I am excited because not only is the food fun but so are the vessels we are serving them in.

And whoever said you can't have burgers at a black tie wedding is wrong! My wedding is very fancy and we are going with comfort food but with a WOW factor. It is by no means cheap or low key

Although we are doing a sit-down dinner, heavy hors d'ouevres are also yummy and something I wouldn't mind having at someone's wedding. It gives guests more options to pick and choose from and a lot of times, appetizers are my fave part of the meal!
