tipping vendors

Can someone either direct me to a previous post or help me out?

I'm trying to figure out the rest of our budget and wondering who to tip?

Our photographers are friends and own the business. We are getting a deal and they are flying here from WA. I was thinking about getting them a gift certificate to their favorite restaurant as their tip...

Other than that, who else?

Pastor - giving a donation
Venue - it's a friend's backyard, so we're giving a donation
Florist?
Cake?
Musicians (they are friends as well.. we're going to tip them)

For rental setup - do we tip? I was thinking about bringing some baked goods from my work for them in the morning when they set up. Would that be good enough?

TIA!

Confession: I didn't tip the catering staff. We were paying them 28$ an hour. That seemed like more than enough to me.

We only tipped our coordinator ($150), the caterer/wait staff ($100) and the DJ ($50). Then i found out that my MIL also tipped them all $100 each! Geez i wish I had known!

Kaesha - that is totally fine!  Our gratuity is already figured into the price of our catering, so we aren't going to tip our caterers either.  I feel like tipping can really go overboard with weddings...

This and vendor meals are hard for us b/c we're at the end of the road budget-wise, but I feel like the folks we're working with have been really good to us.  Plus, I have no idea how I'm going to convince FI that the buckets we're already paying people isn't enough...

Must you absolutely tip when you say goodbye to the vendor, or is it ok to send something with a thank you card afterwards?

Carrie - I am with you on the budget/tipping thing. I didn't even realize that people gave tips to wedding vendors until I had a ring on my finger!

On that note - it is totally fine to send a card and the tip after the wedding!  You will be so busy that you will most likely not even think of it on your wedding day.  I think it will be a nice suprise for your vendors to get a card letting them know how happy you were with their services!

we ended up tipping our WC ($100), DJ ($50) and photographer ($50).    Tip was already included in the catering so we didn't have to add that on.  I asked our WC about it and she she said it was discretionary based on the level of service received.   It was up to us, and some tipped and some don't.
