Duchess of Cambridge is pregnant!

I have to admit, I'm a total Kate Middleton fan. I'm so excited that she's having a baby.

  • Me too!! I really didn't care TOO much about their wedding, but I am totally psyched to bump-watch.
  • edited December 2012
I am an admitted British royals freak. DH thought I was nuts to set an alarm for their wedding until my mom told him that I woke up as a baby and watched Princess Anne's wedding - and have watched every one since.

With the new change in the law of succession, I am really hoping for a girl.

    THIS!!!
  • I am hoping for a girl, too. No matter what, that child is going to be gorgeous. She or he has great genes!

I'm excited because I'll be living in London when the future monarch is born, which will probably be awesome.

    Fun times.

  • On a serious note, I'm surprised it took this long. Granted, they could have had a bit of trouble conceiving, the public won't (and shouldn't) ever know.
I thought the reason they waited so long to wed was because they knew she would be under scrutiny to have a baby and they wanted to wait until they were ready to have a baby to marry.
    Just my $.02.

Either way, it is plainly obvious that I am pumped for them!

Maybe they knew that their first year of marriage was going to be insanely crazy with lots of travel and visits, etc and that a baby so soon after their wedding was probably not the best idea. Not that the rest of their lives will be a walk in the park, but maybe they wanted time for her to get accustomed to life as a royal. I know she was being prepared the entire time they were together prior to their marriage but I am sure it was still quite a bit overwhelming once that title was stamped into place.

I was all about their wedding and love following her fashion statements so I know I will be bump watching like crazy. I hope it is a girl only because girl clothes are incredibly cute!

I wouldn't want to be handling royal duties for the first time and dealing with a pregnancy and baby at the same time. Diana had to do this. I think they were waiting until she was ready to step into the spotlight. The Queen wised up after Charles and Andrew's disasterous marriages. The now Countess of Wessex lived at Buckingham Palace in apartments with Prince Edward with the blessing of the Queen for a couple of years learning the ropes before she and Edward married.

They openly said they wouldn't be having a child until after their East Asia tour that happened this past fall.

EDIT: I think it's rather quick, honestly. They married a week before my husband and I. It seems like that was two seconds ago. Different priorities, of course. In fact, I have many different priorities than Miss Middleton so perhaps I shouldn't think this was quick.

While I also think it's quick, they probably had very serious and specific plans of when to have a baby and planned their wedding and their tours accordingly.

But like I said, none of my business, really, and a pregnancy is happy news no matter how/when/why it comes.

Oh and GLB - I didn't know a lot of that. Thanks for enlightening me! :)

  • I feel kind of bad for them actually. I feel like the first trimester of a pregnancy ought to be a special time for the future mom and dad that only they know about the pregnancy. Will and Kate never had that possibility. People have been analyzing her food and beverage intake since the moment they married to see if she was avoiding alchol and such. now she is having such awful morning sickness that she has had to be hospitalized so the cat is out of the bag now and they won't have a moment of privacy to enjoy the pregnancy from now on.

It wasn't only tabloids saying those things and - quite frankly - they have a ring of truth.

But, that's not exactly why I don't like her. I just found her time between ending of college and her marriage to be a series of nothingness. She had no ambition. She tried to work at Jigsaw but whined that is "just too hard" because of who she was dating (or not dating, since they broke up for a time) so she sat at home and "worked for her parents." It seems more like it was was just one big long party, trip to the gym, and getting her hair done. And, quite frankly, she's STILL like that. People say "Oh, she has such lovely hair!!" and "Oh, such lovely clothes!" It's just all so superficial to me and I kinda want to scream.

I sincerely hope that she uses her position to do some good. There is so much more to life than having nice hair, clothes and body. People say she's a role model. Well, she hasn't proven that title yet. I wouldn't want my kid to grow up like her. I'd want my kid to be more like Chelsea Davy (Harry's ex-girlfriend). She put school first and didn't give a damn about the paparazzi. She lived her life, pursued her career, and fool to those who tried to stop her.

I like Chelsea also, however, I think both women had to make a choice between having any kind of career and marrying into this family. I don't think anyone can say what kind of career Kate would have had. Sophie Rhys Jones also did "nothing" while she was dating Edward. I think there is a lot that went on behind the scenes to prepare Kate that the public does not know - anyone who knows anything about the Queen knows she cannot abide laziness.

Do you remember how Sarah Ferguson was villified for publishing her childrens' books? I know it seems quaint compared to everything the woman has done since but she was cut no slack for having a job.Kate is just now stepping out on her own in her charity work - the "job" of a British royal - you know, that and giving birth to the heir to the throne.

I can sympathize with Kate. A few years ago I had the choice between accepting a job that would have made me partner at a medium size law firm within a year or moving here and starting over completely. I mean from the bottom up. Had I accepted the job, DH would be in the midwest again and commuting to the east coast for work. He would have been dead within twenty years. I saw the toll it took on his health after only a year of doing this. I took a huge professional hit because I want to be married to the man I love for as long as possible. I lost my best friend over this decision. She actually told me I was an idiot for the choice I made and that she thought I was more ambitious than this.

I get what you're saying. But, I still feel like she's done nothing worthy of being honored, adored, or looked up to yet. I sincerely hope she does, but until then I'm just going to see her as a pretty face with nothing behind it... because what else can I go on? Just speculation. Prove it to me, Kate! :-)
  • I heard several Royal watchers say that they wouldn't make an announcement until after the Queen's Jubilee since they would a) be super busy and not have time to deal with the suck-fest that is early pregnancy and b) it would steal Q-Lizzie's thunder.

I know how we all feel about the "thunder stealing" but that's what was said. The watchers have been predicting a late 2012/early 2013 KU announcement since the wedding.

It's almost like she is too prefect. I also think her time between college and getting married was a "wasted time". Her parents bought her a million dollar flat so she could just in London and be closer to the social scene. I just find it sad a woman, with a college degree no less, would living off of mom and dad until the ring was on her finger. If she couldn't work a paying job because of the royal family connection she could have done charity work. It appears to me her charity work came after the engagement.

I think the cynic in me thinks she is too perfect and wondering if it's all real. Prefect people are not normal to me. I often wonder what they are hiding. You don't have to be a Linsey Lohan, but a think flaws are normal.

However, she is a model of how to be loyal and devoted. She had never talked about her relationship with the prince or the family.

I understand what you're saying and I'd counter with I dislike 90% of all celebrities, too :-)

I think that if someone is actively courting a position of power and leadership (and let's face it - she courted the position and it is a position of influence), then you should show yourself to have some substance. She's currently a postcard for good hair, a gym membership and dresses. Um, great?

Had she been off working istead of hiding at home, I'd admire her persistance. Had she done charity work during her college to marriage break, I'd admire her heart. Had she chosen to pursue graduate courses to fill her time, I'd admire her love of knowledge. But, she worked for her parents and complained leaving me nothing to really look up to.

I think her time will come. I really think she'll do something with her privledge, but otherwise she's no different than the millions of other girls who married their loves. On that level, at least, I can understand her. But beyond that? I got nothing.
