    Snippy, not really. I think most actual flames happened on pages 1 and 2, then we got onto SAHMs for a while and god knows where after that.

    Don't you know? Nebb is the only one around these parts who was ever unemployed in the last 2 years. With a mortgage to pay... oh wait.

    There's a girl on my anniversary board who is unemployed and can't qualify for UI. And her husband just got laid off too. True story.

    How do you not qualify for UI? I have no clue about these things. Being unemployed not by choice doesn't automatically mean you get unemployment?

    If you get fired rather than laid off, you might not qualify. Like, if you were drinking on the job and they fire you, obviously they're not going to give you UI because it was your own fault.

    (I  mean "obviously" because that's obvious for the US, not whatever socialist country you live in! Just kidding.)

    She didn't do anything like that, but I guess a project she was in charge of got messed up while she was on her HM and they decided to blame her.

    Also, if you haven't been working somewhere very long, you might not qualify. They base it off your salary from 9 months ago, so if you've only been working somewhere 6 months and get laid off, you either wouldn't qualify or your UI would be based on what you were making before.

    Because you have to have been making at least a cetain amount, and have been working for a certain amount of time.  There are certain restrictions.  I was really surprised I got UI when I got laid off from my teaching job because everyone told me teachers don't usually qualify.

    FI didn't qualify for UI about a year and a half ago when he was working full time doing home health care and the guy died.  We were very poor for awhile there.

    Ohhh, interesting. Here I don't know how it works, I just know that like 1% of my salary every month goes to unemployment insurance. I guess if I'm ever unemployed I'll find out, but I'm ok with not knowing.
