Say Anything Wednesday

Sooooo....we just refinanced my Civic like 2 weeks ago....and now I'm contemplating trading the car in for a Prius.  Like this weekend.  It makes absolutely no sense why we shouldn't do it, but I feel guilty because I've only had the Civic for a little over a year and I think I'm concerned about what our parents would think.

I am hoping that this weekend's trip to Circle Park(?) Bridal will be a success.. I was this close | | to giving in and buying a traditional dress that both Lulu's and Mockingbird Bridal carries,  that my mom and FI really really would have liked and opposed to the modern style that my future MIL and ( and kinda more importantly) I would have really liked.
I have this dream that I will go to this shop this weekend and be able to split my budget into 2 and buy 2 dresses, one of each style , traditional for ceremony and , and modern for the reception, and then everyone will be happy.

    A girl can dream...

mariah- I think you should do what you think is best for you and your DH.  FI thinks I care too much about what my parents think (and I do...).   My tummy still hurts when I do something I know they'll disapprove of.  I spent all of my single life making sure I pleased my parents no matter what I thought.  I think my parents have alot to offer and I respect their opinion, but now that another person is involved I have to think about us and our future as well.  (I guess I'm finally a grown up) :)  I say if it's smart for you, do it... then drink a bottle of wine.

I've had two cars just about a year before I sold them.  I like new stuff I guess.

Our save the dates are going in the mail today.  Hopefully they don't get sent back due to the label I did.  Someone brought up a point they the addresses might be too low.  Please God let all get sent.

Oh and I love Lost.  So happy that they're starting to explain stuff!

Well said, Amber!  I agree and I am pretty much the same way. =)

I'm scarfing down my lunch at 11:00 AM...I am eating turkey and cheese roll ups and grapes.  I know I'm going to be starving again by 2 and all I have is an apple.

Anyone have any suggestions for healthy snacks to help me survive the day?

  • edited December 2011
Amber, exactly!  I'm always comparing to how my parents or his parents would handle something.
If anyone's interested-here's my reasoning for wanting to trade in the Civic for a Prius.  You tell me your thoughts:

    1) If we get trade in the Civic now we could get a good trade in value and bring the price of the Prius down to pretty much the same amount that we owe on the Civic right now.
    2) We'd get over double the mileage in one tank of gas in the Prius.  So I'd probably fill up my gas tank about once every 3-4 weeks whereas right now I'm filling up every week and a half if not sooner.
    3) Insurance would be able the same-maybe a little more but nothing ridiculous
    4) Our monthly payments would be the same amount and the same amount of months that we have left on the Civic.  So it's not like I'd be making another year of payments on the Prius.

Would you guys do it?  Steve is pissed at me because he says we should have gotten the Prius from the very beginning.  But a year ago, I couldn't have made the payments without a sizeable downpayment and a good trade in (my old Intrepid wasn't exactly going to get me big bucks).  Now because we'd have a good trade in I'd be able to afford the Prius.

Does trading in a car you've only owned for a year hurt your credit or something?  I'm just afraid it looks bad...

Also, I might have an interview this week or next for a new j-o-b.  Fingers crossed.  Much better opportunity.  And I'm still taking the generalist exam on April 8th. I really feel like I've got lots of opportunities and I hope something works out soon :)

Tiffany, I am currently dieting and here are some of my snacks:

Low fat yogurt; snack sized lowfat microwave popcorn; cut up baby veggies; whole wheat crackers with Laughing Cow light swiss cheese; 1 granola bar; fat free soft serve frozen yogurt; fruit

I'm on day 3 and so far I'm doing pretty good.  Not very hungry at all which is surprising.

Tiffany, greek yogurt is really good for you and filling.  Great snack, too.  I get Chobani Greek Yogurt. I've tried the Oikos and it's just not the same.  Very watery, whereas the Chobani is thick and creamy.  I put granola or flaxseed granola in it to give it some crunch.

carrots, quaker delights rice cakes, fiber one bars.

Thanks Stephie!  I will definitely add some of those in! :)

Mariah,  if they are giving you a trade in value that is enough to pay off your car and also significantly bring down the price of the Prius then I would do it too.

If your worried about what your parents might think, you might wait a few weeks and see what happens with the new job.   A new job is a great reason to make a big decision like a new car.   Also, I don't think trading in a car after a year hurts your credit, it will just show as a loan paid in full.  Another inquiry on your credit to get the new financing can lower your score, but it shouldn't be significant.

Mariah - I will definitely try that!  Goodness, I am going to make a list and go to the grocery store tonight.

I went to the grocery store Monday night and spent $101 on diet food.  That was certainly some motivation to make me stick to it.

    Some snacks I eat are:

carrots with fat free ranch dressing
sliced apples with yogurt or organic peanut butter
Jello Mousse pudding, sugar free, 60 calories
    mozerella cheesesticks
low fat cottage cheese with strawberries.

low fat yogurt with sliced strawberries and blueberries
    wheat thins with lowfat cheese
    100 calorie pack snacks

Mariah, I would probably do it.  Plus, isn't Toyota offering 0% financing right now?

I have the same problem with trying to please my parents.  I'm an only child which makes me a super-people pleaser.  As long as the two of you agree on what's best to do, then that is all that really matters.

So my best friend had a miscarriage earlier this week.  I have absolutely no idea what to say to her.  I told her that I was really sorry for her loss and that I was always here to talk.  She has an 18 month old daughter and was really excited about the second baby.  She just kept saying how she is never going to get over this.   Frown

Melissa, I LOVE the jello mousse! My favorite is the caramel.  Yum!

And thanks for the advice everyone.  I think we're going to look this weekend and see what happens.  If we can get a good deal we may just do it.

Yea well, you suck, cause I'm starving.  I'm sitting here trying to decide how many extra miles I'll have to run to eat nachos from the school cafeteria.

Mariah- I think that your decision sounds pretty well thought out.  I can't be sure about the credit issue, but I think if it's not a pattern, then it's OK.  Every time you make a big purchase your credit rating drops a little bit (I'm pretty sure, but not positive... debt to income ratio or something?).  Let us know what you decide!

Steph, that's a hard one. :(  I think the only thing you can really do is just be there for your friend.  Bring her some dinner one night or a card.  I think it's just important that she knows you're there if she needs someone to talk to.

Hee, sorry Amber!  I am normally starving even when I'm NOT dieting so it's really weird.  I think it's the increase in fiber keeping me full actually.  But my stomach is in knots, grumbling and doing all sorts of weird things!

It took me an hour and 20 min. to get to my dr. appt. this morning with traffic. The office is in Fort Worth and I just moved to Carrollton :(.  I love this dr. (she's a general practitioner), she is very nice. But this is the 2nd time I have had to wait a long time. They  open at 8 and my appt. was at 8:45. I didn't go back until 9:15 and didn't actually see the dr. until 9:45. Last time I waited a total of 2 hrs! I wasn't happy but one of the dr.s in the practice was out and others had to take over his appointments so I thought I would give them another chance. I have been going to this dr. for almost 8 yrs and they have always been very prompt until this last year or 2. I hate trying to find a new dr. but it looks like I'm going to have to.

I think Jesse James is an idiot if he really cheated on Sandra Bullock with that crazy, tatted up lady.  Way to go, dude.  And awesome downgrade.

My sister also loves the caramel flavor. I haven't had a chance to try it because everytime I go to Walmart they are out of that flavor.Frown

My kids are testing today and tomorrow and I'm completely caught up in my classroom.  I'm bored out of my mind.

I agree about the Sandra Bullock thing.  I heard he was married to like a porn star before Sandra, though, and she resembled this cheating tatted chick.  That's just what I heard in the lounge, though.

Since this is Say Anything Wednesday here goes:

Mariah, I meant to tell you this ages ago, but I really appreciated you apologizing about maybe making a mistake in taking that review down about McGowen Images. I thought it was a show of your character to apologize and while my opinion really doesn't matter all that much, I liked you a little more when I read that. So, thank you!

I have a job interview downtown this afternoon and I am excited even though the job is in Lewisville and I am in east Dallas. I hope I get it, then we can finally find a place to move. :)

I agree that Jesse James is an idiot.

I dislike people who say that they hate every option that you've come up with but, when you ask them what they want, they just say, "I don't know."

I just got my race day confirmation for my marathon.  It's two weeks from Sunday and I am getting so nervous.  I can't believe I'm actually attempting to run 26.2 miles.  I know I can finish, but I wnat to be able to run across the finish line and not collapse.

TEam in Training has been great and all the fundraising I'm doing is going to a great cause so that really helps motivate me.

Anyone else out there running in this?  The half or the full?  I'm sure we can talk about our weddings for hours to help keep our minds off the running!

I'm back at work after being home sick for 2 days. So far, I've been majorly sick twice this year. All my sick days are gone. I really need to get better about taking my vitamins!!

I've missed you ladies tons! My work computer keeps kicking me off the knot and I have no clue why. Today, I am covering for the receptionist, so I can come on here and say hello! Laughing

Jesse James was married to a porn star before he married Sandra Bullock.  His ex-wife was also very tattooed.  Ditto Mariah - he is an idiot.

Steph - I'm very sorry to hear about your friend.  Just give her time and space.

I'm seriously tired of wedding planning.  Seriously.  It stresses me out to think of everything I have left to do.  Plus, I have this stupid test that I have to take in July.  I wouldn't take it if I didn't have to.  I think I'm just feeling overwhelmed.  :(

I know I never post on here anymore (and for that matter 1) Was mostly a lurker when I was planning so I'm sure nobody probably remembers me AND 2) changed my s/n after my wedding from Bethany&Kevin to this one) anyway Mariah, I wanted to say that I just traded in my 2007 Mazda 3 that I had for about 2 years last week. My payment is about $25.00 more a month, however I only finananced it for what the amount of time I would have been paying on my Mazda. Toyota is doing some really good deals and do have 0% right now so if you can qualify that will help a lot. Also am leasing this time as apposed to buying because I do get tired of the same car, so in 3 years I can trade in my camry and get something new. Maybe that would be an option for you? Just an idea. Also good luck on getting the interview.

Mariah--See how much you could get by selling it yourselves. Dealers give you crap for trade-in values
  • edited December 2011
Thanks rcpm :)  I just saw your post.  I appreciate the kind words.

Thanks everyone for suggestions and the advice on the car!  Marissa, I don't know if we have the time and patience to see about selling it ourselves.  But we are going to see what the dealer would give us and then take it to CarMax and see what they say.  The highest price wins!  And if I can get 0% financing that would be a-freaking-mazing.

Bdette, I hope you're feeling better! I had wondered where you've been.
