What are you reading?

Re: What are you reading?

  • I have over 300 books on my Kindle and only paid for 2 of them.  That being said the quality of the free literature is probably seriously lacking.  I am reading The Wonderful Wizard of Oz but I just finished The Third Floor which I enjoyed.  It was about a 15 year old girl in 1962 who got pregnant and had to stay at a home for un-wed mothers.  It hit kind of close to home because my mother was 19, single and pregnant in 1960 and I was 21 single and pregnant in 1984 (my daughter is 28 and not pregnant, yay!)  Ironically the girl went into labor on the day I was born.  I am well ahead of my 100 books in 2012 goal.

[QUOTE]I liked The Mermaids Chair as well, but I didnt love it.  Same with Secret Lives of Bees.  <strong>But I thought the latter was better.

<div>This. I thoroughly enjoyed secret life of bees and so I went out and bought the mermaid's chair right after. I was bored by it and it took me a while to finish it.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm currently reading War and Peace, and Two for the Dough </div>

  • I'm currently 100 pages from being finished with A Dance with Dragons, the fifth book in the Game of Thrones series. It was boring and confusing at first, because it came out 6 years after the previous book. Now it's interesting, and the next book's release date has already been pushed back a year, so that one will be confusing and clumsy too, I fear.
  • I really want to read the Game of Thrones books, but I am hesitant of books that long because i lose interest.

  • Blue -- He writes each chapter from a different person's perspective, so you are constantly bouncing around to where it's interesting.  The HBO adaptation is pretty good actually.  They do a pretty good job of sticking to the book.  So, you could watch an episode and see if you could get into it.

[QUOTE]We have not done one of these in awhile. I just finished The Handmaids Tale and I wasnt a huge fan.  The story was ok, but the writing style irked me. <strong>I just started Midwives.  </strong>Im only about 20 pages in, but it looks like its going to be good.  Its about a midwife in VT whos patient had a stroke giving birth and she thought she was dead so she did a C-section to save the baby.  They are saying she killed the mom.

This is a fabulous book! I read it a few years ago, and since then I've moved twice, and it always makes the cut (books that I don't give away when I'm clearing out my ever-expanding bookshelves).

I'm in book four of Game of Thrones now. Didn't enjoy book three, but am hoping that things get better.

I've just started book four - Feast for Crows. I didn't enjoy book three because there were too many characters, and by the time you got back to the next chapter about each of them, you'd forgotten what had happened the last time.

I'm usually a fast reader, but these books are taking me forever.

It's funny; I watched part of an episode of season two adn thought it was the most awful thing ever, but FI wanted to start from the beginning, so he got the season one dvds and book one. By episode three I was totally hooked, I'm in book four, and he's the one who's stopped reading the books! (But we're both anxiously awaiting the return of the show).

The first book and a half are like the show, then some things change. Not a huge deal. But they were really good about keeping it accurate for the first season on HBO.
