Disney Honeymoon Questions!

My wedding is coming up on the 6th of July, and we are leaving the next day for Disney World in Orland, FL, and will be gone for 10 days. As many of you probably know, wedding can always end us costing more money than expected, and as ours had, some of our money saved for the honeymoon will be used for other things. Hotel and Disney tickets are already paid for, but my question is, how much spending money are we going to need for food and other things for 10 days? We already will have about $2000, but will that be enough? Does anyone have experience/insight on this?

Re: Disney Honeymoon Questions!

  • 1.  Disney is a resort/theme park, so the prices are pretty inflated to begin with, which is important to keep in mind.

    2.  Just as with any other part of the world, it kind of depends on how much money you want to spend and how you want to vacation.  I can go to a restaurant and have dinner and spend $20 or $100, depending on what I order to eat, if I booze it up, etc.  If you keep tabs on how much you have to spend, you should be fine.

  • I strongly strongly recommend getting the Disney Dining Plan if it is within your budget.  You can eat every single day and you won't have to worry about the cost of your meal, it is all included.  However, if you do this, or even if you don't do it, you need to make reservations NOW for every sit down restaurant you want to eat at.  They fill up fast, especially in the summer and if you want to eat at a waiter service restaurant you need to make reservations for one for each night you are there now.  You can always cancel them later on.  If you don't do it, you'll waste your money on the dining plan.  They ahve different plans at different cost levels and I'm not sure if one fits in that budget or not but you can see...

2000 dollars is about 100 per person per day.  I think that is a ton of money personally.  I never eat breakfast or I bring with granola bars and chips and things that I snack on in the morning.  Lunch will cost you between eight and ten dollars per person if you eat in a fast food restaurant.  Dinner could be any amount depending on where you eat.  But, if you don't eat breakfast, ninety dollars is a pretty big amount to spend on dinner for one person so I think you'll be fine.  Their sit down restaurants range in general from 25 dollars a person to fifty dollars a person.  Fast food is usually eight to ten.  Unless you want to add on Disney Quest or the water parks or rent a car and go somewhere else, you probably won't need to spend much on anything else.  Or if you buy lots of souveniers, I guess you might need more money.
  • We did the dining plan for our 9 night honeymoon and our 8 night 1st anniversary trip.

If you aren't on the plan $100 a day per person would probably be fine unless you plan eating 3 sit down meals.
We spend less than $400 on tips (for our meals) and souveniors this past trip in 8 nights (we were there the first week and a half of May this year).

  • Thank you ladies, all of your answers have been extremely helpful <3
  • My suggestion is eat breakfast before you go to the park take snacks with you and you can always leave the park for dinner and go somewhere and then go back!
  • Just random insight - I've been to Disney bajillions of times - the best way I've found to save cash is to pack a backpack full of snacks and a waterbottle you can refill at the fountains. My 2 friends and I went with this plan and all we ended up buying was one meal each lunch time that we split and ate our snacks along with it (that way we felt like we had something sorta substantial - chicken fingers, burger, whatever). I think for the 3 days we were there we spent less than $50 on food/drinks.
  • If you happen to be staying in a hotel room that has a full kitchen make your meals or at least breakfast and dinner. We do that when we go to Disneyland (stay in a timeshare though). It saves a ton of money, plus it lets you rest for a while which you need after walking all day. We also take the backpack and fill it with snacks and water.
  • I don't know how experienced with Disney World you are, but here are 8 tips from my last trip there :)

    1) Take a refillable bottle and some little single packets of gatorade, crystal lite, kool aid, etc. You can easily fix the bad tasting water problem, get some electrolites, and save lots of money on expensive water.

    2) Buy kids meals!!! They're better than adult meals, come in fun shapes, and cost less! Nobody knows that you aren't buying for a kid and no one cares.

    3) Read the guidebooks! They will tell you which rides to go on at what time of day to avoid lines AND which places to eat are the cheapest and best tasting. I loved the Asian noodle place near space mountain and it was decently priced.

    4) Buy the Fantasmic dinner packge if they still have it. After walking around in the heat it is great. Plus, you get saved seats for the popular show.

    5) Bring your own snacks. You don't need to spend that much on food in the park. If it is hot you will want to eat much less. IMHO $2000 is a TON to spend on food and you wont be doing sit down meals all day.

    6) It may look dorky, but fanny packs are your friend! They go with you on all the rides and hold your tickets close.

    7) Parades are the BEST time to do... anything! Everybody is sucked in and the lines go way down.

    8) Don't buy your souvineers/gifts in the park. The stores in the hotel zone are SOOO much cheaper and are the only place I found to buy Disney postcards.
