Some people make lots of money jumping out of airplanes and other things some only do as hobbies.

Plus I don't drive for a living either.
  • I want to sky-dive reallllll bad. I love jumping off high stuff. I'd do it even if I had kids. H wouldn't so at least they'll have him if I die. But like Chels said it's not that dangerous as long as you don't try anything stupid.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Fearless? Or insane? : Well, it's exactly how I meant it. Momma, do you think hunting, waterskiing, hiking, parasailing or even running (because sometimes marathoners drop dead mid-race) are high risk hobbies?  I'm just trying to find which part of the scale you're sliding on?

I don't think any of those that you listed are what I consider high risk hobbies.
The skydiving at the extreme altitude, yes

  • Hunting, waterskiing and parasailing are all pretty high-risk hobbies. Think about it. *pokes brain with a stick*
  • What about pilots of jets at air shows? (since I mentioned them earlier re: breaking the sound barrier) Are they not allowed to have children, either?

True, does he get paid to do this?
Driving is pretty necessary where I live.
There is always risk to everything we have to do, but is the risk of an extreme sport such as what was posted fair in relation to how it will affect other loved ones, if you are not getting paid?

Good thing you're not planning on having kids with that kind of selfish behavior.

I Am, I get what you're saying in terms of the fact that some things are hobbies and others aren't, but you're making way too many generalizations for me to get behind. No, all military personnel do not make the BEST parents. No, parents who happen to skydive or engage in risky sports are not very selfish.
  • AATB I meant literally how are the bees for you. I know farmers need them to be sucessful, and there are less and less of them and it's becoming a problem. Do you have your own bees?

  • Oh man my kids are screwed. H, I, his dad, and all of H's siblings/spouses all hunt.  This kid will be left with MIL when we all die to horrible gunshot wounds or falling out of trees.  How selfish of us.

I guess I am not sure how the bees are doing in ND.  But no we don't have our own bees.  I went to school with a few kids though whose parents had bees.

We have bees. Well, they aren't technically ours, but  they are still out front and we (ok, H) can't mow or edge too close or they'll get mad and attack. But they keep the little fruit grove healthy.

That's all I have to add. I want to do pretty much all of these high-risk things for fun, but we all know I'm not cut out to be a parent.
  • Momma, have you and the father of your children ever been in the same car without your kids?  Or flown together without your kids?  If so, that is so completely selfish of you.  :/
