FUNNY ceremony ideas

Re: FUNNY ceremony ideas

  • We're actually going to have the friend that is marrying us start out with the ceremony from the Princess Bride...lisp and all. Just a few lines to break the tension, and after that we are going to go to the regular ceremony with the (almost) traditional vows. (I don't "obey" anyone, so we are changing that, but that is a pretty common change in modern times.)
  • I like the facebook idea, its funny because that is exactly what people do these days! Its not 'offical" until its on facebook! I like it especially if it works with you and your fiances personalities. I have always been a fan of the True...hence funny comedy! Go for it! Good Luck!

[QUOTE]Ok, apparently you guys are way too serious on this website. sorry i even asked you all. we're going to have a funny wedding because unlike you all we dont take life too seriously! just because we want to make sure our wedding is funny, memorable, unique or whatever... doens't mean it's immature, inappropriate, or not sacred. "To infinity and beyond" means FOREVER! how is that not a commitment?? i seriously don't understand you people at all. and by the way, i never asked any of your opinions. i asked for new ideas, not a judement on what my fiance and i have already decided on doing. if i could figure out how to delete this whole post, i would. thanks to you guys i will no longer be using this website. you've left a bad taste in my mouth by how stuck up you all sound. i hope your weddings and your marriages are as bland and snooty as you all make yourselves out to be. goodbye.

Amen, sister! People on here are so mean most times you post. Your wedding is your wedding; you do what you want. As for new ideas, I don't have any but good luck. I think a funny ceremony is cute, and very personal even if not everyone gets it. A wedding isn't for anyone but you and your FI-- so you do what you want! People can be mean on here; I've definitely learned that in the short time I've been lurking/posting. They knock my ideas all the time. Keep your head up and have fun!

  • overall its your wedding and you can do whatever you want. I actually lol'd at the facebook thing because my fiance is aLWAYS making fun of me for being a fb "addict" .. and the infinity and beyond is cute too. i dont see why anyone should get offended by it. My only suggestion would be to limit the use of what your incorporating as "funny" .. too much is not a good thing

That was just on an episode of Four Weddings. It's been done so many times. The element of surprise that makes that gag funny in the first place isn't there anymore. You think you're being original or creative, but it really just comes across as kitschy and played out.
It's uncomfortable to watch the bride and groom stay silent waiting for the laughs and only a couple of the guests give out some low, polite chuckles. So awkward.

  • If Infinity and Beyond means something to you, as a couple, or even if doesn't, I say rock on. Who are you to let other people tell you something ain't funny or will be outdated? That day belongs to you and your love.
  • My FI and I are planning on punching eachother in the face instead of doing a kiss....now THAT'S funny!

    Playing the devil's advocate here,

But if it's your wedding day, you should do whatever it would take to make it that perfect day for you and your fiance.  If that means a mass, wearing a stormtropper outfit, whatever go with it.  I think if any guest's feelings were hurt because the couple chose to do an alternative type of ceremony that is unfortunate, but, ultimately, it's not the guest's wedding.  I know my mom has already been surprised by some of the things I am planning for my wedding, and I know some of my family may talk about things that they might not think were done "proper," but, it's my wedding and it will be the wedding that I want to remember for the rest of my life.

  • If you'd been married ten years ago, and said "You may now change your MySpace status!" would it still be funny now? I think not.

  • If she wants it that way, then fine. She knows her guests better than we do. They may find the facebookthing funny. I like the idea of say "after me" when he says repeat after me. That wouldn't seem rehearsed to me because that's so something I would do. Or forget what he said. Again, let the funny things just happen. What would be funny for the 2nd kiss, is if your FI didn't know about it. And he was just surprised. You know your guests better than an online community though, so I woulsnt liste. To these women. Its your wedding :-)

  • I like "to infinity and beyond." Take a cute photo of you updating your Facebook status. It doesn't need to be in the ceremony.
    Anniversary
  • Just a tip: the more you tell people NOT to respond if they disagree, the MORE they are likely to respond.

Anyway, I don't think it's funny either. It comes off as trying way too hard. The funniest things are spontaneous.

  • I honestly love the "to infinity and beyond" idea. Not even because it's funny, but because I think it is a promise. A promise to be there until the VERY end, not just until death, but until death and beyond. Why do wedding vows have to be so serious and solemn? They should reflect you, the couple, and the relationship you have. If that's the type of relationship the two of you have, then go for it! It is your day, not everyone else's.
  • My fiance and I have thought about the "to infinity and beyond" thing as well, I am not comfortable with "till death do us part" and we have been trying to come up with something different. And we love toy story, we also plan on dancing to "youve got a friend in me" soooo im all for out of the box. So by all means - if it means something to you, go for it!
The facebook status thing... its not funny, the first couple that did it..sure, funny..youll be like the millionth - not funny anymore. and in no way is it at all, unique.

Your ceremony is for you, so unless your vowing to give BJ's twice a week, do what you want. If people dont think its funny..well, I guess oh well, your ceremony is not about them, its about you and FI. However, I do believe your ceremony should be serious and sacred, your vowing to spend FOREVER with someone, thats serious!! If your fosusing on trying to make your guests laugh, I would think it takes away from the sacredness of your vows.
But like I said, your ceremony is for you and FI, noone else. Your throwing a reception for your guests, your ceremony is yours.

I'm reading the Wedding Bee post, and actually, if you keep reading it's looks like she got annoyed over there, too, because every other person told her that having somebody randomly yell "STOOOOP!!!!! Oops, sorry, wrong church" mid-ceremony would most likely offend people. But ya know, since her and her FI think it's HILARIOUS, clearly, everybody that doesn't find it funny just comepletely lacks a sense of humor <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-undecided.gif" border="0" alt="Undecided" title="Undecided" />

That is so obnoxious. If I were a guest and someone did that during their ceremony, there is no way I would be able to take the rest of the ceremony seriously. At all.

The "funniest" thing I saw happen at a wedding was when the FOB and the bride got to the end of the aisle and the pastor said something about giving her away, the FOB hesitated for several seconds before saying yes. Everyone giggled because it was funny but also really sweet. And, most importantly, it was not planned.

Seriously. Quite a few people both here and on Wedding Bee (Which kind of shocked me, since it's usually Validation City over there) told her that moments that are truly funny are the ones that aren't scripted. When you try too hard to make something funny, you just look like you're trying too hard, and it's painful to watch people trying to be funny when they aren't.

OP, just because you and your FI think something is funny, doesn't mean it's actually funny. Maybe you're the ones that have a really poor sense of humor if you think that being obnoxious during the ceremony is the only way to show that you aren't "serious people".

  • A little humor in the ceremony is ok, but I don't like the FB thing (although I was not asked for my opinion...) I have a re--written versian of 1st Corinthians 13 which includes things like "love is a patient video game partner" that I would like read at the ceremony. I feel like it's a quirky twist on something appropriate for a ceremony. We are doing most of our wierd stuff for the reception, including Fi going from beard at the ceremony to clean shaven at the reception.

Yes, I also wish I could figure out how to delete posts - I just stopped reading one post when people got rude. But take it with a grain of salt - online some people think they can say whatever they want and have no screen for their thoughts and unkind words. Sorry people responded that way. I find that here on The Knot - maybe because people only use this site during their wedding planning time and there's no real sense of community you get with a site where people are bonded, having been chatting and getting to know each other for years - it's like open season for just saying whatever you think with no regard for someone's feelings. I consider it a good source for getting information - websites, etc., for products I plan to buy, tools to use in planning - but chatters beware when you ask for an opinion.

  • I always thought that pledging to spend the rest of your life with that one person who accepts you for who you are is what makes it special...I for one think that is a wonderful time to continue to be 'that' person he/she fell in love with. Those who have come to share that day with you know this about you and I would hope that they would not want you to be anyone other than who you are when you are committing to one of the most important events of your lives...with that being said...do what feels natural to you, if 1,2 or 3 or a number of other ideas is what brings a smile to you face when you think of it then I think you should absolutely, without a doubt do that!!!! It is your day, do what makes you both happy.
  • I love numbers 1 and 2. If that is apart of you and your FI personality. I say go for it. At the end of the day this is your day. The guest are there to be witness on however you want that day to be . If you want him to say update your facebook status. I also think you two should pull out your phones and pretend you are doing it. It is different.

It could be fitting for this age this is the age you are getting married. MAKE YOUR DAY HOW YOU WANT IT.
