Wedding cake

Re: Wedding cake

• They should NEVER remove the buttercream when serving.  Fondant, whatev.  But not the buttercream.  That's absurd.

Alix, I don't think that's the case with me.  I've had fondant that people claim is great.  I just can't stand it.

• When you peel the fondant off a cake, there is barely any icing left over.  I always peel the fondant off myself and eat the cake without.

• 1 - How many weddings have you been to?  - Myabe 8ish?
2 - How many have had good cake? - Basically one that I can remember, they had cheesecake. And mine. Mine had the best cake. Some didn't have cake.
3 - Of the bad ones, did the B&G tell you ahead of time how yummy the cake would be? - No, no one but me has ever said that. :-)
4 - What's your favorite wedding cake flavor? - I'm not a big chocolate fan, so I like something that's not chocolate on chocolate with chocolate frosting.
5 - Fondant or buttercream? - buttercream, for sure. We have creamcheese frosting, though.
6 - Is/was/will your wedding cake live up to your expectations? - YES
7 - Do you want cake now? - Maybe
8 - If so, and you lived in Boston, where would you go to get it?  Bonus points if it's Back Bay or points north, more or less along the orange line.  :D - Haha, let me know!
I think I've come to the conclusion that a lot of you haven't had a properly made fondant before. This saddens me.
Posted by alixzafiris
I think the issue is that bad fondant is COMMON. Way more common than bad buttercream, which is almost impossible. I also don't like the texture of fondant. It's not moist.

• 1 - How many weddings have you been to?  Too many to count.  I've been IN 5 weddings and to at least 8 more that I can think of off the top of my head.  Let's say 13 then.
2 - How many have had good cake?  There are only three weddings where I specifically remember the cake.  Two of them I remember because they were freakin awesome, and one I remember because it was $600 and tasted like crap.
3 - Of the bad ones, did the B&G tell you ahead of time how yummy the cake would be?  I know they told us how much they spent, I can't remember if they told us it would be good.  When I tasted it, I knew they paid way too much.
4 - What's your favorite wedding cake flavor?  White
5 - Fondant or buttercream?  I've never had fondant before!
6 - Is/was/will your wedding cake live up to your expectations?  We had cheesecake and I loved it, as did our guests.  I was really happy with our decision.
7 - Do you want cake now?  Kind of yes!
8 - If so, and you lived in Boston, where would you go to get it? Sorry, I'll probably just settle for a cookie from the Subway downstairs.

• I've only had fondant once and it was like eating gum.
• 1 - How many weddings have you been to?  15 that I can think of off the top of my head
2 - How many have had good cake? Maybe 2-3 (that includes mine)
3 - Of the bad ones, did the B&G tell you ahead of time how yummy the cake would be? No
4 - What's your favorite wedding cake flavor? Chocolate or something light and fresh fruit filled
5 - Fondant or buttercream? Always buttercream.  Or cream cheese.
6 - Is/was/will your wedding cake live up to your expectations? It did.  People came up to me and said the cake was to die for.
7 - Do you want cake now? Yes, darn this survey.
8 - If so, and you lived in Boston, where would you go to get it?  Cannolis on the north end, you know that little bakery?

I know of a bakery in SF that does almond marzipan for the fondant look, but while it tastes better than fondant, I found that bakery's marzipan too sweet.  And then you have to worry about guests with nut allergies.  Buttercream is easier.
• I went to the cafeteria for lunch, and they're giving away pie samples today.  It's not cake, but it'll do for now.

3 - Of the bad ones, did the B&G tell you ahead of time how yummy the cake would be? I don't think anyone has ever told me how yummy the cake would be.

4 - What's your favorite wedding cake flavor? Chocolate chocolate with more chocolate.

• Don't really like cake period.  For me to enjoy cake it needs to have either NO frosting or very light frosting that taste amazing and the cake should be very moist.  The only reason I don't like chocolate cake is because I don't like frosting so I always scrap it off and then the cake is dry without frosting. :/  I am having cheesecake at my wedding in addition to my wedding cake, which will have frosting since most people are not strange like me! LOL

• Go to Sweet. :)  I think there are two in Back Bay - one on Newbury, maybe around Exeter, the other on Mass Ave near Newbury, I believe.  They sell cupcakes (mini and full-sized), not cake, but with really yummy buttercream icing (which they also sell in little shots for like 25 cents).
• 1 - How many weddings have you been to?  In my life?  I don't think I can count that high.  In the past 10 years I've been to about 20.
2 - How many have had good cake?  I can only remember one having truly awful cake, but none of them stand out as being amazing
3 - Of the bad ones, did the B&G tell you ahead of time how yummy the cake would be?  yeah, she definitely did
4 - What's your favorite wedding cake flavor?  Chocolate
5 - Fondant or buttercream?  No icing, period.  It's nasty
6 - Is/was/will your wedding cake live up to your expectations?  It did!  She went really light on the frosting though because neither of us like it, which helped the cake situation greatly
7 - Do you want cake now?  The question is, when don't I want cake?!
8 - If so, and you lived in Boston, where would you go to get it?  Bonus points if it's Back Bay or points north, more or less along the orange line.  :D

3 - Of the bad ones, did the B&G tell you ahead of time how yummy the cake would be? No afterwards, the bride had the nerve to post pics of the cake on FB and mention how yummy. That cake tasted like crap!

5 - Fondant or buttercream? Butter baby!
6 - Is/was/will your wedding cake live up to your expectations. Of course!
