Now that I've read that one should never wear a tux before 5 pm, I'm feeling kind of weird that FI chose tuxes for our morning wedding (reception over by 4 or 5). I don't want to look like uneducated buffoons

. How serious an etiquette offense is this? He chose grey. Is that perchance better than black for daytime?

But yeah, I always see tuxes at daytime weddings. Doesn't mean it's right, but then people may or may not know if you're doing it right or not.

However, this is one of those things that doesn't matter all that much. What your FI and his attendants wear doesn't matter all that much and doesn't affect the experience of your guests. If you wanted them to wear tuxedos to your morning wedding that would be a different story, but these days they groom can wear pretty much whatever he wants.

<div>I get that you're from one of the few social circles where this is a big deal, (in mine, I think FMIL is the only one who would know the difference between a cut away jacket, a morning coat, and a tux) but what does being Jewish have to do with top hats?</div>
[QUOTE]Thanks everyone. The groom insists on renting a tux rather than making the guys buy a suit, however if I could find a morning jacket or suit or any of those things to *rent* I could probably change his mind. However no luck there in my area-- I've asked several menswear shops. Fortunately I can probably count on nobody in my circle noticing... except me :)

Often, a suit can be purchased for about the same or less than a tux rental.

Yeah, a crappy suit. Sorry, but if I'm going to buy something to keep, I want it to be nice, and no, you're not going to find a nice suit for less than $200 unless it's on killer sale.

</div><div>Ditto J. You can rent suits, the same way you rent tuxedos though. So I mean it's pretty much the same. Wearing suits doesn't equal everyone buying suits.
