Quickly, while bmom is still at the movies.
I am not in favor of banning all guns. I'm cool with hunting.
But WTF is wrong with this country that we have self-proclaimed neighborhood watch wack-a-doos packing heat?
Thoughts?

Re: s/o Trayvon Martin, let's talk gun control
Have a gun if you are going to do so, responsibly.
Take out credit and get a home and/or education, if you are going to do, responsibly.
A neighborhood watch wacko who kills an unarmed kid while on a power trip is not responsible.
I think we always think we do things better than other countries, but in this area we do not.
Last time I checked French people eat meat and seem to do just fine with out being strapped up like crazy. Yes, they have a lone crazy person shooting but it's rare. What are our stats?
also, there are lots of things crazy poeple can use as weapons that don't have to be registered. i'm not a fan of guns, but i also know that it's not the gun that is the problem.
It's another one of those "chicken before the egg" situation...what started it all?
Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
I agree that it would be ideal if everyone were responsible, but look around. We are all surrounded by irresponsible people who have the same rights.
I just don't buy the self-defense argument. Most people would never be level-headed enough to actually use the weapon correctly in a self-defense situation. By carrying a gun you are just asking for trouble.
And frankly, I would rather be murdered than live with what the guy who killed Trayvon is going to have to live with.
I could get behind a 6+ month training requirement in order to have a gun permit. If you aren't responsible enough to show up for classs, you aren't responsible enough to have a deadly weapon at your fingertips.

True, but guns make it a heck of a lot easier.

Unortunately, he doesn't think he did anything wrong. He has to live with nothing unless he get's ostracized by society. That might happen but people will forget soon enough.
However, I stand with O on the fact that more gun control seems to have guns ending up more in the wrong hands and the people who are honest and responsible in their pursuit of gun ownership have a bitch of a time getting one. I believe there are a hell of a lot more responsible gun owners than irresponsible gun owners in this country.
[QUOTE]I wonder if anyone thought Zimmerman was an "irresponsible" gun owner until he shot the wrong person for the wrong reason? Just a thought.

Yes, he is/was.
And supposedly he was trained by the cops to be on this 'neighborhood watch'. I am very curious to know what this 'training' involved and if the volunteers were told to tote their guns.
[QUOTE]It's funny because the more you try to "control guns" the more you seem to reduce the ability of those "responsible" people to get the guns, and yes I'm going cliche and the "bad guys" can still access weapons. It's a slippery slope. It's another one of those "chicken before the egg" situation...what started it all?

I'm in this camp. I think hunting is stupid, but there's a reason the second amendment was included in the bill of rights. Just look at what happened in Egypt last year. The people managed to revolt, sure, but when the government sends armed thugs to silence (and sometimes rape) people who are trying to overthrow them for completely valid reasons, you need a damn gun, not a sharpened stick. It's a reset button on the constitution. Regardless of the danger of whackadoos shooting random people, we need a means of revolt so that the government can be kept in check.
And I love Baconsmom so, so much. I will fight the good fight with you every time.
