So I know this has been discussed before, but LVB had seriously interested me in the Kindle. However, I was wondering if anyone had experience the Nook and if you all think one is better than the other? They're pretty much the same price now, so I was wondering if the touch screen and book cover view at the bottom of the Nook made it a better choice, or if there were Kindle features that I don't know about that makes IT the better choice? Such decisions!
Re: Kindle vs. Nook
I love books
I'm still on the fence, and need to figure it out before Christmas.

FWIW, the Nook also has a 3G option, for only $10 more than the Kindle with 3G.

[QUOTE]Ooooh good to know Laura. I also like the fact that you can take a Nook into any B&N if you need help setting it up or need to get it fixed. Although if they are selling Kindles in stores now I wonder if they would have a similar program.

I liked that too, it was sort of what kept me on the fence, but I'm pretty sure I can at least get some help from Target. Also that I believe you can go to a B&N and 'borrow' books? Plus the borrowing books from other people (including people with the Nook app for the iPad) is pretty awesome. I'm hoping that the Kindle gets on board with something like that since I wound up going with them.
Honestly, it was the weight difference that really convinced me - 8.7 vs 12.1 ounces (for the 3G one). I feel like that will be noticeable after a few hours! I literally just made this decision yesterday.
I still love my paperbooks, but I just have too freaking many. If nothing else it will be worth the money for when I go on trips. I normally have a bag with nothing but books.

Best Buy carries both models, along with the ereader and the iPad. I'd actually like an iPad AND a Kindle.
Brie has a Nook and I think she really likes it.
I have the Kindle app on my iPod; other than (obviously) it being smaller page-wise than I'd like, it works well.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
Honestly, everyone who has either one seems pretty happy, so those are the two features that really stand out to me. Everything else (ease of use, battery life, and so on) is great.

From the research I've done, I've heard it's best to stick with the two and not go for the other eReaders out there...
[QUOTE]The Nook is bigger, but has a smaller reading area than the regular Kindle. I couldn't find anywhere online that actually gave the diagonal of the reading screen (the Kindle's is 6") but it says the screen in 6" diagonal which includes that color thing at the bottom. If that goes away (it might, I don't know!) then they are the same reading area.

Well, I just whipped it out and measured it (hehe) and my Nook has a 6" reading pane. The color thing is additional to that.

question about the nook- to nook owners? can you turn off the touch screen? I was thinking about it and I think that the backlit part of it would bother me while reading. Not that it matters I have my kindle and I am in love just curious

I wanted to read "Kitchen Confidential" by Anthony Bourdain and was annoyed that they didn't have it, but then two weeks later, there it was. Still haven't been able to get my hands on this month's NBC book of the month, but I wasn't all that interested anyway.

AHHH I can't make a decision!!!!!
I think you and Kate are plotting against me for this week's Grey's. You both haven't answered me yet. :-P
Opalsky lent me a book and it kept me occupied on two long flights!
Seriously, though, I went with the Nook largely because of the lending feature (my SIL is getting one and we'll share lots of books, I share with a few friends, my boss has one and wants to borrow some stuff). There is no equivalent to that on the Kindle that isn't questionable/shady. I am also able to get library books on my Nook, which is great.
I've had no issues with it being heavy. I bought a cute cover for it on Etsy and it travels with me everywhere. I like the touch screen for scrolling through pages.
Ultimately, I think they're pretty similar--I went with the Nook partially because I had a large B&N gift card from my credit card rewards points, and think I would have been happy with the Kindle too.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.
Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
I'm also a lover of real books and would never stop buying them. Our issue now is that we don't have room to buy more books (we're in a 1 bedroom apartment) and the mobility of an ereader is very convenient, not to mention its smaller and lighter than some novels.
