At home reception ideas

Can anyone think of some places that I could look into to have an at home reception? We are having a destination wedding and want to celebrate with all of those that could not come to the wedding.

Looking for something in between Boston and Southshore for about 150 invited people. I cant afford a sit down dinner, so I am thinking heavy h'orderves and cocktails.

    What are you looking to spend- price per person. Also, open bar or no open bar?

    Are you open to a Knights of Columbus or Elks club?  If so I would contact your surrounding areas to see how much they are - they are usually pretty affordable.  I am from the North Shore, so don't know specific south shore ones.

    For $1,500 for an at home reception food only for 150 ppl would be $10 a person...so kind of tight.  If you can push it to $2000 for the whole thing, I think it would be more doable?   You most likely will have to find a place to rent out and then have it catered or bring in your own food. Be creative - it can be possible with a little effort.

    If you are ok with a buffet, check out Avelinos in Medford (www.goavellino.com).  The buffet king is 10 items for $10 and comes with warmers, bread, salad, etc.  Awesome deal.  Then ask if any of your friends are Elks of Vets to get a deal at a hall (sometimes they are as low as $200).  Another plus is those places usually have cheap drinks.

    Oh and just an FYI - my friend did the same thing after going to Bermuda for their wedding.  They came back and had an island-theme reception at the Saugus Elks and had it catered by Avelinos - it was great, tons of fun, awesome food, and cheap drinks! :)  Just wanted to let you know where I got the idea.
